Any darker colour will minimise your bottom half, so browns, deep greens from olives to forest.

You could wear a patterned skirt and take a light or bright colour from the pattern and wear it on your top half to draw attention up.

So many options out there for you!

Hi rwishka, do you care to post a photo? It sounds like might be more of an hour glass than a pear, but a photo would help pin this down (you can hide your face.)

In general, I'd say the cut of the skirt is more important than the color. If you're an hourglass, an A-line or pencil cut would probably work best. You'd want to avoid pleats and other features that draw attention to the hips.

Hi everyone!

I'm starting to get back to sewing my own clothes and am starting with skirts. I am 5'8" and have a healthy body weight. I have a pear shape in the sense that I have curvier hips and thighs. However, I also have a strong shoulder line, average-sized bust, and a kind of defined waist.
I've been reading that pears should wear darker colors on bottom and bring the focus up on top. What plain colors would be suitable for knee-length skirts other than black or navy?

My coloring: Pure black hair, olive skin.

Thanks!
