This is actually a wardrobe hole of mine. I cannot tell you how difficult it is to find so if you cannot get that outfit out of your head, and you find a black silky shirt you absolutely love and can afford I would say go for it.

So it is not a hole but a good to have if the perfect one comes up. Because of the state of constant flux my wardrobe is in and also the random nature of what I find at the second hand stores I have a lot of those.

Haha, Angie!

Ok. I think I should put one on the list. I can't think of stronger outfit glue, but for a white blouse (ok and I know I have one of those). And you know, talking about Celine clutches that can wait a bit longer... how funny, it's all about the magic of YLF... I'm not desperate and can actually afford to be PPP about this!

Been a long time coming, honestly.

Hmm. Unfrumped, I think you've hit on my concern. I feel that I've wasted a lot of time and money creating specific outfits in the past just because I've wanted to and like to play around. The thing is, I've always done it without any idea of these outfits serving me beyond that original creative urge. I'm wondering if I'm doing it again, how much I really want to wear a black blouse.

'Cuz on the one hand, a black blouse is so basic, versatile and classic, I assumed I had one. On the other, I've obviously been doing without one. I feel as if I could come up easily with three, and more, outfits... but maybe I'm imagining things and it's not a direction I often go.

I should go look in my closet for real.

I wake up each morning thinking I need to match my outfit with a cream Chanel bag, white Celine clutch or light blue Prada satchel. That would set me back $10,000. Hmmm. I don't think I need to fill those wardrobe holes just yet :)

Rachy, if it's a modern classic that has the potential to glue pieces of your outfits together - I always vote go for it.

Not Angie, but remember how she gave examples having some outfits where you wear certain things together always and don't expect mix and match.
Of course a black blouse is usually pretty versatile, but you might be saying, I really want to create this outfit with the tuxedo pants and black blouse, whether I plan to mix and match or not. There's room for that sometimes, and especially if it makes a fab outfit that you wear more often because of it.

But if you do, then you should be picky and get one you think really looks great.

As one who ordered a black blouse earlier this week.... just sayin...

I think it is a basic and very versatile piece that you will find many ways to wear...I recommend looking in you wardrobe and see how many things you could pair with it. That could either build your confidence in purchasing or if you aren't inspired, then don't.

It sounds like one to me, for the reasons the previous commenters have given. Or rather, if you have the urge to buy one, and the money, I would buy one. If you aren't sure or don't need to be spending the money, then do without. (But if the thought of not getting one makes you feel sad, you have your answer: it's a hole to fill!)

Black is such a basic for me, I think I'd say it's a classic and you should have one. But that depends of course if black is a color you like wearing on top. If so, then yes!

Since I am a mix-and-match person, I try to puzzle out if this piece I think I am missing will work with at least 3 other things I already have. If so, then I consider it a wardrobe hole.

Angie! Everybody! I woke up this morning wanting to put on a solid black silky (but not shiny) button-front with my tuxedo pants and discovered I don't have one! I thought I did.

Now I could certainly see a lot of uses for one, but I can't say there are many (read: any) outfits waiting on one to be complete. I mean, nothing will go unworn for lack of a black blouse.

How do you decide if something is a legitimate wardrobe hole? Do I have to, for example, wake up three mornings within a certain time frame wanting one and not having it?

Ok! Many thanks in advance.
