Oh, dressing like a christmas tree would not be fun but I think I will buy a flower pin from Anthro to wear with my herringbone knee length coat.

Okay! I shall blog about hosiery soon.

The Anthro model has what I call “Christmas tree style”. A thousand things going on at once where nothing matches but it all works. Fabulous on someone arty, eclectic, casual and very young.

Kasmira (http://www.whatiwore2day.blogspot.com/), has a similar element to her style and pulls it off well. It's the opposite of an outfit with strong, simple, clean lines. Hope that makes sense.

Oh Angie, that was SO helpful. You should consider blogging that for those who don't read the forum!

Anthropologie does a fantastic job at incorporating textured and patterned hose in their outfits. I am normally not much of a hose/tights person, but this series of outfits is definitely having an effect on me...

http://www.anthropologie.com/a.....ES-OUTFITS

Once I get this job I am ALL OVER those plaid hose with the tailored menswear shorts.

Finally got back to this thread, Julie! Here’s my two cents:

o	Most types of hosiery is acceptable with peep toes. It really depends on your preference. I like self -colour textured hose and there is an explosion of that in stores right now.

o	Yes! Hose is acceptable with flats. I wear flat boots 80% of the time – usually with hose if not over skinnies. But then there are flats and flats! Ballet flats, loafers, Mary Janes, sneaker skimmers, boots. So many types of flats. Smart hose with casual flats – no way. Casual tights with casual flats – not impossible, but harder. Smarter hose with smarter flats – of course. It’s like hose with pumps. Okay, so I also wear very smart hose with Docs. I break that rule but it works because I fully understand HOW to break the rule.

o	You add hose to a dress and skirt ensemble when you feel cold, need to add polish, want to lengthen your leg line, add coverage, or add textural interest to the outfit. Or just want to cover your skin! Tights are more casual and I don’t wear those (too many bad school uniform memories), but they won’t add the polish if that’s your goal.

o	Ribbed tights can look great in an Anthropologie and casual sort of way. Absolutely. Argyle tights are tricky. They look juvenile, but there are ways of making them look sophisticated when you’re over 30.

o	Layering nude hose under lace hose is a fab idea. I do that too. Not sure about black opaque but I am open to the suggestion. Could be great.

o	Michelle, normal sheer black hose with black boots is flop proof. Semi opaques are close but can look awful too. Burgundy boots look best with burgundy hose. Very yum.

o	Those with thicker legs do not need to avoid patterns at all! But keep the pattern small and delicate.

Remember that guidelines can be broken and I’m all for it, but you have to understand the rules first before you can break them successfully. YLF is never about boxing you into a look unless your pants are too short :0)

Julie, that’s my little Rosie in my profile pic. Greg’s profile pic is of our little Jasmine. Both baby girls are lying on their pillows by my feet snoring away. I love the little content noises they make.

Thanks for assembling all this, Julie and Angie.
Apart from microfishnets, is there a flop-proof hosiery option for dress/skirt and boot ensembles?
What hosiery option is best for leg-slimming effect?
If wearing coloured long boots (burgundy, for instance), what shade of hose/tights would be best?
Should those with thicker legs avoid self-patterned or textured hose?

Will add more if I think of it.

I finally found the Angie quote on hose and flats: "Some ballet flats are really casual and they look odd with dressy hose. Pumps with heels automatically look dressier, but some uber casual pumps look odd with hose too. (Remember I mean hose and NOT tights)."

This statement overwhelms me with confusion. I don't even know where to begin. But I hardly ever wear hose or tights and I am not a dressy person so I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks Angie

That answered allot of questions, a few still remaining are:
* I've been wearing lace hose (learning) with peep toes, would you say any other type of hosiery is acceptable?
* Are hose acceptable with flats? This came up on one of Maya's threads.
*When to add hosiery to a boot/ skirt or dress ensemble?
*What about ribbed tights and argyle tights, can they ever look stylish?
* I love the look of my lace hose, would you advise layering a nude hose underneath for extra longevity as the temperature drops or could an opaque work?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm hoping to get allot of wear from my dresses and skirts this season and would really appreciate the input.

Do you have any separate questions Michelle?

Good topic, Julie. Have a squizz through these posts first and let me know what additional info you’re missing:

o	http://youlookfab.com/2008/12/.....f-hosiery/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2006/11/.....%93opaque/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2006/11/.....our-shoes/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2007/11/.....ue-tights/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2008/12/.....hnet-hose/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2009/01/.....ay-or-nay/

o	http://youlookfab.com/2008/11/.....weet-spot/ - can’t believe I actually wear all these sweet spots now!

I'll also add that hosiery is a personal thing. For example, I prefer hose to tights.

More generally, I'm also not a fan of black opaques. I think that they are often misused in an outfit – like the fall back option that just ends up looking flat and blah. In some instances black opaques look killer, but that’s a pretty hard look to accomplish in my book.

As tights in all varieties and styles appear to be huge this A/W and repeated threads are appearing requesting the dos and donts of wearing certain styles of tights, I was hoping you could provide an at a glance guide (or blog) for the following:

Sheer tights
Semi opaque tights
Lace tights and micro fishnets
