CE is a house brand and the quality is very good. I have a lot of silk tops from them and they wash very well.

And you know what, I've seen items from NAS go on sale a bit later for the NAS price or lower so patience can pay off. Good luck and keep us posted.

Vince Strapping pants - have a pair . They are quite cropped though, and the fit isn't great on me. They strike me as best on a really straight body .

Angie - I realize that vent comment sounded odd. I like a bit of design detail like that, or something that sets a trouser apart from just an average pair of black pants. It was just an example of a feature I don't mind. A pair I tried somewhere recently had that feature and I though it was interesting - draws attention to the shoe underneath. I'm getting impatient - but I'll wait:) I am curious about the CE pant though and will go over to see what the Cdn price is - I don't mind spending if the pant delivers on fabric and style.

Ok - looked at the CE's and see that they are a poly blend, not wool. That concerns me - shininess, etc . I would really need to see these first before ordering from Nordstrom and risk having to pay to return. Is this a house brand for Nordstrom?

its to bad that vince doesn't work for you, because i was going to second gryffin's suggestion for the strapping pants.

its been 2 years since i bought them, so i'm assuming they are still the same, but i'd also suggest the jcrew suiting pants

I'm on a similar hunt, only for classic charcoal gray flannels, lined for Winter warmth and comfort, with a loose, but not too wide, drape--even harder to find! Have you looked at Akris Punto? Pricey, but their pants are made of the most exquisite fabric, and beautifully cut. They have a Black Basics section with some great designs, including a pair of pants (I think they are called Madisons) that might be what you're looking for. Good luck!

Well, I can chime in on the CE pants Angie suggested above. I had purchased the NYDJ bootcut ponte pant at the NAS. Then, just my luck, I started thinking (after the sale!) that I really better try the CE since I'm looking to replace a great pair of Karen Kane pants (bootcut) that were my "go to" nice black pants. Well, I *really* like the CE pant ... better than the NYDJ. The CE pant is a bit longer (which I like), great material, and I love the cut (maybe a little more narrow in the knees and a bit more flared). So, yes, Angie--sad face for me too that i missed ordering these in the NAS--drat!!!!! Makes me mad just thinking about it! Oh, and, Lisa, I think I'm pretty much an hour glass and the CE's fit me quite good through waist, hip and thighs (I'm about 5'6" 132 lbs)--size 4 . . . I'm leaning towards keeping them. Good luck with your search.

These were AMAZING - and you missed them on sale. *sad face*. They look MUCH better in person. The fabric and finish is extremely luxurious.

Lets wait a while. The Fall stuff is imminent. It's still end of season stuff now. Try:

Alexander Wang

Theory

Classiques Entier

Alice & Olivia

Lafayette

Why would you want a side vent in the hem, Lisa?

I have a high waist to hip ratio also. I've had luck recently at Ann Taylor. Talbot's also sells lovely wool trousers. Both are nice medium rise, decently made, and can often be found on sale.

Hi Angie,Inge et al:

I'm looking for the ultimate black trouser for fall. I don't have local access to a lot of better brands, so am willing to order on-line upon your best recommendations. I am looking for a very high quality super-fine/cool wool (or closest blend) (in other words , no rayons, no jersey) woven, front zip fly opening, side pockets, straight leg or flare (not cropped or pegged, I have that covered) . The classic trouser, if you know what I mean. Mid-lower rise. Nothing tricky, no banded bottoms. I love a side slit in the hem though - and did try on a pair at BCBG with a front seam that was interesting but didn't fit well in the waist. Price - i'm flexible if it's the right fit. In past experiments, Vince doesn't fit me well - too snug in the thighs. I've never tried on a Theory pant. I have CM here in Wpg, as well as BR so don't need those. My body: much smaller waist than hip (so alterations may be necessary) so I suppose I'm some type of an hourglass. Thanks in advance - this is my one big score to make for fall.
