Okay, that's all I needed to know. I do have a good tailor. Plus I'd rather try that and leave the option to chop if needed!

Overlapping, Una. 100%. I don't think you need to cut anything - but you *do* need a good tailor.

Angie, do you think it needs cutting or just a way to secure the front - overlapped, or edges meeting? I'm only going to get one try, so I don't want to mess up! Thanks for all the input. And yes, I'm sure the tailor will steam it for me!

Kate, I know what you mean about hook and eye - it doesn't go with this look.

Ooo, I like #2! Cutting and narrowing the front might work too... or he might have to take some in from the side seams. I don't like the idea of hook and eye as much, but I can't put my finger on why.

Okay!

It fits in the shoulders. The belt loops look a little low, so I'd raise those. You need some sort of fixed closure - like velcro or studs. And that jacket needs a very good steam!

So here are a few more photos. I am trying to figure out what would work best when I go to the tailor. Should I have him put in a button to make it kind of double-breasted? Or actually cut and narrow the front? Hook and eye? The first picture is with the jacket just open. Any help appreciated!

I have the sleeves rolled back here so ignore that part.
