I believe doing so gives you a stronger case if you claim copyright infringement, however. Also in the U.S., fair use allows for certain uses of copyrighted work without permission from the owner--usually for educational purposes or for satire or analysis. Other uses might be vulnerable to legal challenge, but the risk might be small.</p> <p>This is off topic so I'll stop, but the legal issues around using an image found online are often far from simple.
