I have some new jeans that feel snug at first, but soon stretch to fit. I'm so glad I sized down per other reviews so I'd have the proper size. It's hard to know how comfortable something is going to be if we only wear it for a minute just to try it on, though I'd say the exception is shoes. If shoes don't feel good from the get go, I pass on them. I just got a pair of Paige high waisted jeans in my usual size and while they fit perfectly everywhere else, they feel a little tight in the waist.
