Because I have no curves, straight size 16 fits me better. A size 16, is sized up from a 'straight' sized pattern, while a women's 16 (16W) is cut with different proportions- usually fuller in the bust and hips (maybe the waist as well). I guess you could say it's similar to the difference between junior sizes and misses sizes. A 16W has a more generous bust I think. There is probably more to it than that but that's all I remember. It's like how a size 6 and 6 petite are different.
