Like Janet this shape doesn't work for my body but I love it on other people, particularly rectangles and ITs with small busts. I think you do need a shorter hem to balance out the higher neckline and overall looseness, which could be the only sticking point for age appropriateness. But if you like how your legs look then go for it!

I love this look on other people, but it does not suit my body type (quite hourglassy, pear tendencies) at all. I think it's quite wonderful and totally age appropriate for less curvy women of all ages.

This short swingy-mod shift shape works really well on me if I can find it in a neckline, color or pattern I like. It balances out an IT shape perfectly. And my thought with dresses is if it flatters and fits, go for it!

Not dated at all. This style of frock appears in retail every season. You should have no problem finding the dress you want.

I like this style. But I think that there are things to be careful with , like the bell sleeve that Emma is wearing as well as length. ( Like others have said. )

Disclosure : I am not Angie either, nor do I speak for her. : )

Oh, and regarding Emma's -- the short length, too.

Carla, I have a black and white dress this shape that I really like. I am a rectangle (I think) with a small bust (that I know) -- which may be why it works so well, as April noted. I'm very drawn to shift styles in general. (I'm also 50!) The pronounced fluted sleeves on Emma's make me love it a little less -- that with the color make it a little OTT for me, feels more like something a 50+ celeb could get away with but I might feel self-conscious. However, I LOVE the one MIchelle WIlliams is wearing in the photo you posted -- she is a one of my fashion faves, and I love black and white and pattern. I'll be interested in what Angie has to say about this!

Not Angie of course, but my comment on this style is that it works best if you have a pretty small bust. Otherwise, there's an unfortunate tenting effect.

My eye has been drawn to the retro (60's?) dress shape of loose, tunic style mini with long sleeves (see pictures below). Is this an emerging trend and will we see it in retail? Is it a dated look? Hard to wear? Is it too short to be appropriate for a 50+? (Emma is my age after all!).

Your thoughts would be helpful to me since I'm considering this silhouette.
