Oh, I agree that should work well, hang nicely over the jeans.

I tried on this dress last night, and I think it would work really well with jeans, as the 00's "I meant to do that" look. Even with a 3/4 sleeve t underneath, I think!

Had another thought - the yellow skirt would probably look nice with solid mustard pants. Going monochrome, that is.

K.M., in addition to rachylou's and Angie's advice, I think one weekend I might go to a thrift store or Forever 21 (where the dresses are all cut short) and play around. I think a light dress in a short length + jeans + longerish cardigan + heels might be a solution to the proportion dilemma. If I experiment, I will post pics on this thread, especially if I have any success (and I can share the what NOT to wear photos).

Your best bet with these particular skirts is to wear them over a column of colour, like black or denim.

I *heard* my name Cannot recommend the apron look too much, lol. I like a shorter skirt with longer pants, and capris for longer skirts. I consider fabric weight too. I like the lighter weight skirts like you show. I think you may not like so many gathers as are in the second skirt, tho. Sort of bulks up the waist.

I want to do skirt over skirt. That's new for me. I have dug up an old crinkle skirt with a bit of sheen to try this with...

Oh and haha, if you want to go native, you have to go to the Japanese dollar store and get a terry head warmer band... hahaha!

Ok. Yes. Better wait for Angie's advice... ;)

annabelle, I'm super interested in this thread and curious to see what others post. When done well, I love this look. It takes me back to the early 2000s. I was living in Europe at the time, and the apron look was all the rage. Those girls knew how to layer skirts and dresses over pants, which at the time were mostly bootcuts. I never mastered the look then--you have to get the proportions right in relation to the clothes and to your body, and I never found the right items. If the look is coming back I'd love to give it a go. I bet the silhouette will be different this time around?

I love the concept of layering a skirt or dress over jeans, leggings or pants. What I saw on runway recaps was skirt over dress, that really did look like an apron. What saw in google images is dress over jeans.

Is there a way to style a flirty woven skirt over jeans or pants? What are the rules of the highway here?
