Glad you like them Aida! Agree about the different vibe. I think I may need more than one pair soon, for different outfit moods :)

Lyn, thankyou for the very useful feedback! I love this kind of breakdown. Despite the fact I put these glasses up because I liked them, I am nodding in agreement with each of your observations. Great to hear in words what I was intuiting but unsure about.

You are such a pretty and young face!:-)
Without reading others:
1-3 are the best!
I like also 7-10, 11-13 and 27-29.
4-6 are too small and draging face down
14-17 screaming look at me look at me, but not doing a lot of favour (grey)
18-21 drags face down
24-26 tan colour melt in your face, oldish
30-33 invisible
Now, off to read all your comments here as I'll may soonly need your help for a new pair of specs, too.

Thanks so much Goldenpig! ^_^

Update: was in the neighbourhood, so popped into the optometrist where #1 is today. They were there, I put them on, it was magic. Even better than I remembered! I made an appointment next week and they have noted down that I want that frame.

I think I'm still going to try to check out some others, to satisfy my curiosity. But the truth is, specs magic doesn't happen very often in life.

It's nice to feel my first instinct was right and shared overwhelmingly here. ^_^

I'm late to the party but as a fellow specs wearer I wanted to chime in. My favorite is #1, followed closely by #27. Any chance of buying both? They both look great on you and have a nice uplifting effect on your face. What color is #27? It looks a bit red to me, which I like. I have a pair of dark red glasses and a pair of brown glasses too which covers pretty much any color outfit I want to wear.

After reading the comments I see you liked the red #21 pair. I like red too but the glasses seemed a bit too heavy for your face...I really prefer #27 over #21! And I agree with Angie, #1 is KILLER!

Good luck with the glasses search!

Fruitful, frame #1 follows the arch of your brow beautifully. The temples are light which keeps them refined. I like the width - a little oversized in an edgy way, but not overwhelming. A few of the other frames were too narrow. The height is perfect - big but not too big. Great colour! The specs complement your face. They are not wearing you. We still want to see gorgeous you :)

Okay. I can't be more succinct than that!

Other thoughts re your comments -

MissVee, you raised an issue I grapple with with "interesting" glasses. Sometimes I too feel we see the glasses and not the face (or the whole person's style). I have a dilemma though, because I have experienced the flattery of a distinctive handcrafted pair before. It's a really fine line. I honestly do see the problem from both sides and don't know where I stand. The solution of course is a specs wardrobe. Never had that so far. I'm going to do a separate post about my previous experiences wearing loud vs soft frames.

Kari, you hit the nail on the head with what my goals are re specs - lift, and to fit and harmonise with my face. Thanks for your clarity. :)

Angie, thanks so much for the Killer rating! If you have time I'd love to know your breakdown of why these work.

Tarzy, the statement question is important. I'll try to address it in another post!

Small but Mighty, you have raised so many wonderful points to consider (and I have been considering them, but not really acknowledging the clash between different goals). I am going to have to address them in a separate post. I hope you will keep reading and sharing your very helpful perspective! And I'd LOVE to see your eyewear wardrobe.

Anyone who has read my entire posts here, you deserve a medal! Thankyou everyone even for the briefest comments - they all help me get perspective and the handholding is nice as well! xx

Thankyou so much everyone for your helpful opinions, and your confidence boosting words - I am tempted to reason with your compliments, about how I look in awkward angles, without makeup, when I don't smile etc - but it's probably more graceful for me to accept your kind thoughts without debate, so I will :)

The results of your "votes" are: 1 (14 votes including a no contest one from Angie!)

After this comes 27 (8 votes), 11 (6 votes), 31 (2 votes), 24 (1 vote).

Now time to reveal my opinions/experiences.

Pair 1: I accidentally tried these on while taking my son to his optometrist. I had a little flutter of excitement because I really liked them. The optometrist said she owned a pair too; they're one of her faves.

The best things about them - lifting at the sides which is the main thing I've been looking for. Clear yellow inner and side detail lights up the face (I look for flattering side views).

Questions/problems: are these too big for my face? Is the black colour too heavy for me (despite my dark hair and tan skintone, I can look very pale, plus my lips are small). Are they interesting enough?

Anyway, this serendipitous moment made me want to go glasses shopping to see if there's something better out there, or to firm up a sense that I should get these.

I went to a shop I've been wanting to visit for years; Scoogle http://www.scoogle.com.au/

Let me tell you I photographed more frames than I posted here, and I tried on more than I photographed! 2 hours later...

I was surprised that I didn't find much that had the outer corner uplift and inner V that I wanted (my pet peeves about my current specs is they lack these, and I didn't realise what that does for my face until it was missing).

Lots of the frames were round and even deep at the bottom.

I didn't find anything that I felt sure about. Having said that, glasses I've felt sure about in my 32 years of glasses, haven't really done much for my looks either.

The only ones I got excited about were 14-17. That crossover in the centre is gorgeous and the grey softness would be a feminine, retro in a tea-sipping way, change for me.

Next I went to Occhio in Brunswick St. Their frames were a bit more conventional, but that meant the appealing ones tended to stand out more.

There was one pair I actually asked them to hold for me until Friday - pics 21-23! I kept coming back to them and putting them on again and again.

If you've been reading my posts you may have noticed red is my signature colour. I've wanted a red pair for years but been steered elsewhere, or not seen something special enough.

What I love about these is they have a matte woodgrain finish, and the red is actually a muted tomato, incredibly flattering on my skin. A lot of red frames are starting to look noticeably dated to my eye (as if they are from about 10 years ago). These look contemporary with retro flair, which appeals to me a lot.

Although the arms are boring, I think this works because the simple shape takes away from feeling overwhelmed by the idea of red glasses. These glasses also lift at the corners, which is #1 on my wish list.

Problems: not many people here liked them, and some thought they were too big for my face. Also, I won't want to wear red glasses with every outfit, either because it doesn't go, or because it will be too much red in one outfit.

However, this is where I started to consider getting 2 pairs. Having wanted red glasses for years then finally finding some that excite me and seem to work, it seems like I should snap them up. I could see if they have a different frame in this colourway if you really feel the shape isn't great for me.

NEXT: I started studying/cropping photos. There were lots of rejects and the ones I've shown you are all ones I'd consider. Looking at photos showed me how great some were that I'd dismissed (and vice versa).

I think the pink ones in 7-10 do amazing things for my face, including the side view which is just as important to me. I kind of love them now :)

11-12 go down, not up in the corners , and the deeper bottom goes into my undereye problem accentuation area (lol). But they have this amazing assymetric design that reminds me of retro cartoon picture books (like Madeleine, and Harry the Dirty Dog). They are thus retro fabulous in a very different way than the horde of "retro" frames out there. And I think they look pretty too :)

Number 27 - the colours are delicious but the frame shape doesn't do much to enhance my face. It's acceptable, but not what I was looking for. I and the women in the shop did love the colours on me (and it helps that it totally matched my outfit!)

No 4, I was surprised this looked better than I expected, so wanted your reaction. I kept coming back to it but I don't think I would really buy it.

18, I've liked ombre glasses for years, and these have a deep glassy red. They just don't quite win somehow, though I do like them.

24-26 - I've been craving this colour for glasses, and they have this gorgeous yellow woodgrain on the arms. The shape and size really changes my face, which I both like and don't like. They look on me how I looked with giant glasses as a little girl, and they kind of make me more cheekboney - I like both effects But they don't camouflage dark circles etc. I like them, but they don't look like me. If I had wads of cash I'd wear these in rotation, but can't really justify them in fact.

30-33 - these (metallic, electric blue that pulls slightly cobalt/purple/aqua depending on the light) are a bit thin, which doesn't look great from afar, but have an easy flattering shape that leans slightly cat-eye, but rounded at the bottom (the eyelift thing=good). I have done blue glasses before in my life so that's not very exciting; on the other hand it's a great colour on me. They are boring but they work. Would be nice in rotation but I don't know if they should be my next purchase.

Thanks again everyone! <333 Remember, I'm going to widen my search before I decide.

Wow, you can wear glasses so well--I am really jealous. Number one would also be my pick, although you can wear funkier styles well, if they feel better to you. I think I prefer the old eyebrow shape, but they both look good.

You are just gorgeous!!

Okay, so as a glasses wearer, I loved thinking about this one. I'm actually not going to weigh in on a specific pair, at least not yet, as the number of choices left me a little confused. But I wanted to discuss some overall principles I think about when choosing glasses.

The first is that, as Angie often says, they're an incredibly important accessory. So I was feeling like I needed to know your overall style better to assess which were best for you. Some were a little girlier, and went perfectly with the ruffled sweater you were wearing. But if your style is often more streamlined, then maybe something more bold would suit better and match your wardrobe??

Likewise, I start any hunt for anything with the question, what is my objective? Perhaps because I make my living as a strategic consultant, I begin with the end in mind. When shopping with a friend of mine who was bummed that she couldn't wear contacts anymore, we were looking for the most invisible pair of glasses we could find, since her objective was not really to have glasses. If you want YOU to look as pretty as possible in your one pair of glasses, that leads to a very different choice than if you like the idea of having people notice and comment on your several different awesome frames. I mean, you always want the frames to be flattering, but that will take you down different paths. And both are great goals. What are you going for?

Related to the above: number of frames. About a year ago I got a second pair of frames and have just ordered several more (online). Both having more frames and ordering some online were inspired by Angie and YLF. I came to ask myself, "why am I spending so much more money on clothes than on this piece of face jewelry that everyone sees first?" Of course, I AM in the camp of having the frames be noticed, but I do get lots of compliments on mine, more than anything else in my wardrobe, which makes me feel fab.

Finally, I want to address the issue of colorful glasses. With your dark coloring (like mine), you can carry a lot of color. Before I started adding on a bunch of frames, I had one pair that were red and black. I felt like they really matched anything I was wearing, more than you would expect, which I believe I've also read Angie saying, and I loved the drama of them. If making a statement with glasses is part of your style, then consider color. The pair I added in a year ago were turquoise, and yeah, they stop traffic. Now I'm waiting for some very cheap blue, red and black and white ones to come in the mail, so you must consider the source of that advice. When it comes to glasses, I'm a little nuts.

Happy hunting!!

#1 is by far my favorite, followed by #27. I am another fan of dark frames (and you have dark hair so it goes well) and I love the shape and size of #1 as well.

You are absolutely gorgeous (like model gorgeous!) and it seems you can wear just about anything.
I guess my question is - what kind of statement do you want your glasses to make?

Some of these are super funky (which you can absolutely get away with) but I think I like #1 because it seems more versatile.
I the darker frame - It seems to balance your dark hair really well.
Would love to see more choices!

1, 27 and 31. I like the shape and size of #1 most on your face. I also like 11 but something seems a bit off . . .

OK, just read other replies, and I think Kari identified the issue with #11, so let me just say ditto to what she said!

Okay, for me, I like the first pair by far the best. I think the frames are more in scale with your face and features than many of the other pairs, and the shape is incredibly flattering.
I like the idea of the frames in #11, but the shape of the frames (and the higher vertical height in the middle of the lenses) doesn't have the same lift and harmony with your features as the first pair does.

Okay, first impressions - I like the glasses in photo 1 very much, also photo 11,although they seem a bit oversized for your face, and 27 looks good too, but maybe not as interesting a shape.
I don't like photos 4, 15, 18, 21. Some of these are unusual shapes, but that's all I'm seeing, not your pretty face.

Thanks so far ladies! I do apologise for the poor quality - the light was shocking and my mobile phone couldn't quite handle it (plus I took photos in the mirror to avoid the fisheye effect)
