Yes to Smartwool! I wear boots a lot, and my feet seem to get a little ... clammy ... in cotton socks. It used to drive me crazy. But I switched to Smartwool, and it's not a problem anymore. Love them!

When I do wear shoes, I follow this guide that I read somewhere: with dress pants: match sock color to pants; with jeans/casual pants: coordinate sock color with shoes.

Smartwool has consistently been at my Nordstrom Rack since last winter too -- in case that is easier to get to.

Plus, I think it was approx 40% off at NRack ;-)

OT for Tracy - mrsanniep lives in Madison (I think) although that would put her closer to Chicago YLFers. There was someone else here from St Peter or Mankato, but I can't recall her name right now. And Sally McGraw (Already Pretty) lives in Mpls.

Frances have you tried SmartWool socks? They're merino wool but soft and non-itchy. REI and a couple other places sell them online.

I wouldn't mind hearing some recommendations on socks either. It is essential for me to have warm socks to wear to bed in the winter, but I find it hard to find ones that are just right, that don't itch, and that don't make my feet feel cold and clammy. I recently had to retire several pairs of my tried and true winter bedtime socks that were wearing thin, and the thought of shopping for new one exhausts me. I don't want to waste good money on bad socks, I don't want to have to research different kinds of socks, and I don't want to be in a position of having to return socks I've worn that have not worked out. So please, Everyone, I beg of you: make my life just a bit easier and tell me where to find the best warm and comfy winter socks!

hi Angie,

I'd love it if you did a post on "wearing socks" in the fall. I'm so excited about wearing Oxfords this fall, as I prefer flats, but live in Minnesota, where I can wear ballet flats for about 2 weeks in Sept. and then it's too cold. Oxfords should be much better. However, I never know what to do about socks. Do you have advice? Should socks match the pants? The shoes? Have you had any luck with "footie" type socks that don't show? Whenever I wear them, they end up bunching up and fall off inside my show, which is less than comfortable.

thanks! Sarah
