I called J. Crew earlier today to get garment measurements on the "Minnie" pant for petite and regular. The rise, hip and waist was virtually the same in both (just have to go up one size for petite) and only the length was shorter. That's good for me with shorter legs but I would have expected the petite to have a shorter rise.

My trick is to take a measuring tape shopping with me and then I don't have to try on as much. Some just get eliminated on the basis of the back rise alone. Going to a store that has a lot of brands can be a good use of time to compare. "Your pants" are out there. Good luck and have fun with your search.

My mother-in-law has a short rise/ less full rear end but is regular height and Tahari are her pants.

Teri, I am 5'10 and have that same odd issue with the rise being too long. And, I too was thinking about trying petites. I thought they may work for ankle length jeans. But all the proportions may be off.

I have found a few jeans that have lower front rises but higher back rises: Joes Jeans Icon Muse, Old Navy Flirts, and 7 for All Mankind Slim Straights (these are cropped). The Joes and the 7FAM also have room for thighs.

Angie, I have had luck with Lucky brand jeans. Their Charlie Skinnies and Baby Boot cuts fit me well, although with the lower rise I feel like every time I sit down I'm adjusting the "pooch" or standing back up, yanking up the rear ends I just bought some Wit & Wisdom legging jeans from Nordstroms which are higher rise and fit me well in the crotch, with less "adjusting" issues. Unfortunately, they don't make many styles in that brand. Other than that, I've tried Gap jeans, Banana Republic, JCrew, Levi's, probably the "standards," and all of them are too long in that area. A year or so ago I tried a couple pairs of the higher-priced brands from Nordstroms, but can't recall which now. Same story. I'd love a fitting Any way to do that from Germany (ha!). Are there any other brands you'd suggest worth trying? Thanks for the advice on petite sizing...will save me several return trips to the post office!

Hi Teri!

Have you tried wearing lower rises in regular sizes? I'd be curious to fit you and would love to know where you are shopping for these items. Petite bottoms for a tall gal aren't going to work in the leg length, unfortunately.

Maybe you could measure the rise on the pants, and measure your actual rise. Compare. That will give you a bit of starting information?

Hi Angie. I'm 5'8, 160 lbs. Generally wear a size 10 in jeans/pants. Unfortunately, I often have troubles with the crotch area being too long/saggy. Not sure why this is as I'm tall and proportional. I do have full inner thighs, so maybe taking up extra room here affects the fit...? Anyway, I'm wondering if ordering petite sizes would give me a more appropriate fit in this area? I've never purchased petite or tall sizes, just regular. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
