Marilyn and Firecracker, it's funny, because honestly the raw hems on jeans these days almost offend me on principle, especially since I have spent years painstakingly hemming my pants. I found the special details on these raw hemmed black ones actually more winning because it took a bit more care and creativity to create. I am not an accomplished seamstress, by the way, but I have learned to do my own pants.

I'm really loving the hem on these......such fun jeans! I already have a black pair and I'm thinking I might cut the bottoms this way just to make them more interesting.

I sew as well and sometimes I'm baffled by the price difference for hem treatments. A young SA at Nordstrom tried to explain why a straight raw edge hem was considerably more expensive than the hemmed version. I said "seriously!".....I can zip across with my rotary cutter and a ruler and have my jeans done in 5 minutes. With a proper hem....not so much. LOL

Firecracker, I saw that you bought these, and that is part of what inspired me to check them out. Your comment about principle really made me smile. I believe you are a sewer, so I can see how the lack of logic in the skewed let-out hem could rankle. I have to say that if nothing else I am impressed by the attention to detail and creativity in creating the look. Once I receive them I was planning on contemplating the hem in person, thinking how important the effect is to me, and whether I could just do what you said and cut them on the same angle.

Angie, thanks, I was considering that too. I'll have to see how the effect is in real life and whether I feel the need to preserve it. Of course the first big variable is whether they fit at all I did size up as you recommended in your notes.

Lisa, good to hear Paige has treated you well. I have never tried on Paige denim before.

Scarlet, the one thing that slightly bugs me about these jeans (which I bought) is the fact that the hem is indeed "released," as you show in your close-up. It makes no sense to me, because I just can't envision them being hemmed that way initially and then let down. I mean, it's not as if you could just put them back up on those lines; you'd have to take out the side seam and re-sew it. So I almost want to cut off the pressed-in "released-hem" marks on mine, out of principle alone. I would cut them at the same angle, just follow the pressed-in line with scissors.

A great question, I was going to pass on these but hearing the hem can be replaced is tempting. I have 2 pairs of Paige denim from prior NAS's and adore them.

Thanks, Jenava. I was wondering in part because it appears to be not simply a rough hem, but truly looks as if a hem as been let out after wear. I think I wouldn't really mind losing that detail, but I will know better once I see it in person. I have them on order, and now my credit card is smoking and about to catch fire, so I will have to put it in a cool place for awhile.

They can also take the hem off and reapply it in a way that the seam is very discreet, fwiw.

The tailor at Nordstrom replicated the hem on the Frame denim with the same hem treatment. I'm just 5'1 so I'm in the same boat. I haven't seen it yet, but the assured me it was possible.

So, Angie, there is no point at all in these Paige jeans for a petite, right? I mean, despite the sale price, you are paying a premium for the fancy hems and it's lost on those of us who must hem, right? I like the fact that you report they have worked on many body types and have a high rise. I am still here on project: rebuild my denim closet.
