I really like browns with black. I say go for cognac for some variety in your boot wardrobe.

I think those would be a great option! As Angie pointed out, they are not at all a bright color. I always love that color when I see others wearing it with jeans - but I have the same reservations as you. However, that's such a nice subdued color, I think it could really work.

(Now you have me thinking about a subdued cognac!)

I have a pair of vegan grey over the knee boots that I got last year. I like them and wore them a fair amount. This year I got the SW OTK's in black.

Thanks Angie and thunalata...you make dealing with indecision rather painless

biscuitmom, I know they're trendy, that's why I'm not really shelling out money for a pricier pair. But I wear long sweaters + legging + boots at least a couple times a week during the winter and I'm tired of calf length boots, so I thought it would be nice to switch it up a bit :)

Inge, chestnut riding boots sound lovely...my concern with getting that color in these was that a large portion of my body will be swathed in cognac. But I've had this tab open on my browser for a week now and I still want them, so maybe I'll just get them and ask for opinions then

I also vote cognac Srujana. I used to be weary of "lighter coloured" boots too, for the exact same reason as you are. But since I found a pair of chestnut riding style boots, I've been wearing them a lot with black and dark blue leggings and jeans and I really love the extra interest they add to an outfit.

I think you'd rock the cognac colour. They are quite muted and low heeled. Go for it.

Im not Angie, but I would think the 'trendiness' factor lies in the style, not the color in this case. Cognac is a classic color -especially for fall.....if you're set on getting OTK boots, I'd go for that color in a heartbeat.....I do think OTK boots will be short-lived, however...but you'd get a lot of use from them this fall and *possibly* next....

I have my eye on these boots: http://www.dsw.com/shoe//shoe/.....ain-_-main

But I'm torn on the color: I pretty much only wear solid black leggings and medium-dark wash denim. Practically speaking, black would probably be the best choice ( as its slimming, and wouldn't cut my leg off at the lower thigh), but I already have 2 pairs of black calf length boots and I'm tired of black.
I'm loving the cognac color that these come in (I think that cognac would make them a great transitional item through our Fall/Winter months, right?), but are OTK boots too trendy in that color? Would it look odd and/or potentially limit my outfit choices? I like the grey too..but I already have a great pair of grey calf length suede boots.

My local store has them in my size in black only. I plan to go in and try them on for fit and comfort...but I would like a second opinion on the color.
