Thank you, Gigi, for your wise words. I especially like: "I look at trends as just kind of "fun" things we can do to keep our fashion current. But trends are really just the icing on the cake—they're not the cake itself. The cake is our own personal fashion." And: "Comfort is a big part of our happiness factor too. If these feel comfortable, that is worth a lot." I love comfort. :-)

I like what Adelfa said, that if *you* like the shoes, and the shoes fit your style and do what you need them to do, it's certainly worth trying!

I look at trends as just kind of "fun" things we can do to keep our fashion current. But trends are really just the icing on the cake—they're not the cake itself. The cake is our own personal fashion. If these shoes work for your own personal fashion, you are going to love wearing them for quite some time. And the design of this bootie still has some classic elements—solid color, pretty standard heel shape—so I don't think it will look too out of place even if platforms go out of style.

I tried on a Paul Green shoe at Nordie's some time back. It was similar to this but had laces instead of the V-cut top. The salesperson and I had been talking about comfy heels, and he said I just had to try them. They felt divine! Comfort is a big part of our happiness factor too. If these feel comfortable, that is worth a lot.

Thank you, Angie, viva and all for your wisdom. I will at least give them a trial.

#1: it's not a huge platform. To me, it's not the kind of shoe that's going to take a big hit if platforms go out.
#2: if you really love it, and it's you, it may not matter for 3 years, unless you are really trend-driven. If you are, then think hard about it.

But I agree with Adelfa's statement that "Sometimes something is so "me" that it doesn't matter if styles have moved on a bit."

I like to know the trends, and I like to dress in current fashions, and I like to try the ones I am interested in, but I do buy out of love. And if it's really deep, true love, it's likely going to last a while. Also, I will say that I think there is more fluidity in accessories, so even if shoe styles shift and you are committed to being current, you will likely have a couple of seasons before something is truly "out."

Thanks for weighing in, Adelfa and CocoLion!

I have extremely fussy feet (high volume, wide -- especially in the toebox -- but narrow in the heel, severe overpronation that needs very good arch support and preferably a rigid, thick sole) so when I find a shoe that works for me, I tend to wear it for years, especially since they usually cost a pretty penny -- at least for me.

I hear what you're saying about the light color, CocoLion. And I agree, in theory. But I wear a lot of black and am in love with the black shoe, so that would be the one if I get it. And, alas, classic pumps and I do not get along. Pumps are not really my style. Plus, with all my foot issues, I've yet to find one that's comfortable for me. The closest I've gotten is the Tsubo Dufay, which I keep on hand in case I need to look job-interview-appropriate or some such.

Perhaps this is a case of, as Adelfa says: "Sometimes something is so 'me' that it doesn't matter if styles have moved on a bit." I will have to think on it.

I like it in the light color, not so much in black because the contrast between the heel, platform and upper is greater and highlights the platform. The light shoe is more sleek. I like the shoe and if you keep thinking about it, get it. It looks like a great Seattle late Spring, Summer and early fall shoe. I never think, "can I wear this for three years." I think now or at most, two years out. Everything looks current for at least two years IMO. But if you're thinking three years, I agree with Adelfa that this might be chancing it. I'd go for a classic pump instead if you're thinking three years out.

This shoe is lovely and sleek and I can see why you love it. I don't think it's going to look current for three years though. Something about the platform, the shape of the heel, and the deep V in front. I could be wrong.

Sometimes something is so "me" that it doesn't matter if styles have moved on a bit.

I've asked before whether this Paul Green shootie/bootie would work for fall/winter. Granted, it is not practical for Seattle (where I live) rains and would only work for late spring to early fall. But I'm having a hard time getting the shoe out of my mind. If I did get the shoe, I would want to wear it, and have it be considered stylish, for at least three years, hopefully.

Now, having read the thread about platforms going out of style, I'm wondering if these shoes, with their platform -- not to mention peep-toe bootie/shootie-ness -- might be too of-the-moment, and about to become outdated soon.

Thoughts?
