@Liz- That was a major concern. To a great degree, yes, it will serve as Fall outerwear. So I dithered back and forth.
I considered other silhouettes and learned that I prefer a traditionally flattering fit and felt those other silhouettes made me look bigger or not as "together" as I prefer. I need more strict structure to keep me from looking frumpy.

I do have the military jacket in my cart in a size up. I'm considering it but now I wonder if having both styles in merlot would be redundant.

The part that gives me pause here is that you're using this to replace your trench, and that you mention wearing it on windy days. Is this an OUTDOORS jacket meant to keep you warm, or an indoors jacket that you're wearing as part of an outfit?

If it's an outside jacket for warmth, then I'd be concerned about buying one that I couldn't zip closed. (You might look for a different silhouette then, such as a swing coat, bomber, or cocoon coat.)

Hope you find one that you love and enjoy, no matter how or where you're wearing it!

This is eye-opening, I would never have thought to get a jacket that I couldn't fasten. I would have thought the military jacket would be more flattering on a bust because it's only one layer instead of the multiple layers on a moto. Could you order them both to compare and then return one?

I've ordered the Moto.
The choice came down to the pockets. The military style doesn't have any. On windy days, being able to anchor the jacket by putting my hands in my pockets will be important.
I went w the size that fit my shoulders and arms. I plan to cover the gap over my bust w scarves.

This was hard bc the military jacket has darling lace up detailing on the back sides. Sniffle......
It is still on my radar. Should a flash 40% off sale happen, it will have to join my collection.

I can't wait for it to arrive! I'll post as soon as it does.

Ok, that's encouraging. Thank you!
Lol @ room for both. I'm trying really hard to be more disciplined in my purchases. ☺️I'm trying to reign it in!

I've got bonus cash burning a hole in my pocket though, hmm....

Lady, I echo Ginger 100%.

Most jackets - you don't need to zip up, UNLESS it's rudimentary to the silhouette. Coats on the other hand, have to close.

Lady, try both styles of jacket side by side to compare, and there is absolutely room for both.

You absolutely don't have to buy only jackets that can be zipped up! I would experiment with all of them that you can find, and see how they look and hang when unzipped and partially zipped, and go from there. Personally I would not compromise on shoulder fit; in my experience it always looks sloppy in an unintentional way.

No words of wisdom for you, but I love the color of these jackets. I'll look forward to pictures when you settle on one.

Hello Angie and All,

It's been a long while since I've posted in the forums. I have been lurking off and on over years and really need some guidance.

I need to replace my trench and I'm now a SAHM so I'm going to try something a bit more stylish versus classic. I'll worry about a trench when I head back to the office.

I've settled on either a faux moto or faux military jacket in a deep Merlot. I'm 5'8, Sz 18, w an extreme bust: 38M. That is not a typo. Sigh....

I went to try on the Moto but it was not in store, so I tried on the military style and loved it BUT I've read that motos are great for large bust bc they can be half zipped and still look great? Should I proceed w the Moto style?

As for sizing: getting the military jacket in my proper size means no chance of zipping. Sizing up loses the great fit in the shoulders, back and arms. Do I let my breasts boss me into a bigger size and lose the otherwise great fit?

Any guidance would be MUCH appreciated. I'm ready to order. Pictures once I'm sorted and it arrives!
