Jules' comment actually made me laugh out loud. When I saw this post earlier I was going to suggest something like what you ETA. My DH wears similar each day to the office and they look great.

What you have shown here is perfect! Go for it. A retro classic. And pointy enough

Um did she see the shoes he was PLANNING to wear?
I think your DH should be happy with his new shoes! I like the style you linked to. I think the squared-off point has been in for a few years, maybe it is dated now? My DH still wears his.

Not Angie here, but I love my husband in a sleek, tapered toe dress shoe. That style seems so hard to find in the US, but so easy to find in Europe. (I don't know about "down under!")
I do think a tapered toe looks so much more elegant and graceful for dancing than a clunky- toed shoe, so to me it's perfect or a wedding. Like this, for example:

http://couture.zappos.com/a-te.....ford-black

I think the one you've chosen is very nice, AND your husband likes it, which is essential.
I would always trust your fashion instincts, Deborah! Your taste is impeccable.

Removing off topic, non helpful and nosy question about the bride's request. My initial reaction was similar to Runcarla and Lyn's. :-/

I've never heard of a bride requesting the MEN wear a specific shoe ( other than perhaps ask that they not wear sandals or sneaks! ) That said, you have sourced a handsome shoe. # 2 son has a pair like those ( slip on, tapered toe) and he does look more on trend then # 1 son and DH who's dress shoes are more rounded.

We call them his Rat Pack shoes!

2nd pic is shoe worn by Daniel Craig in 'Skyfall'.

Not Angie:-) but also horrified to hear about the bride's wish :-(. Maybe am not enough fashion forward in the thema, but I love an almond toe which has some high in front much better for dress shoes. For ex these oxfords:
http://gentsadvisor.com/style-.....ens-shoes/
But see what Angie and others say..:-)

Hi Angie, and ladies,

DH is looking for new shoes to wear with his new suit for the wedding at which he is a groomsman.

The bride has expressed she would like the men to wear pointy toed shoes and DH is completely non plussed as he dislikes that style and can't see himself wearing them again.

And I have to admit I don't love what I think looks like a dated men's shoe with a very long pointed toe...well not with a suit.

What toe shape is "in" in men's shoes and what would you recommend for wearing with a black suit with a very subtle stripe?

Appreciate your thoughts.

ETA: I found these and DH didn't mind them.
xxxDeborah
