You are not being obtuse at all. You are spot on actually.

So, a low rise means what it does conventionally - a very short front rise measurement.

A low rise can ALSO mean wearing the waistband low on the hip to create a longer torso (shorter leg line) with a longer rise measurement - causing the dropped crotch "slouchy" effect.

Hi Angie,

I was reviewing your posts and guidelines about how to wear boyfriend jeans or slouchy trousers and I realized I am a little confused about the term "low rise" in these posts. I always thought of low rise as meaning a short rise in terms of the measurement from seam to waist on the front, but it occurred to me you might mean that the waist of the trousers should sit low on the torso? If the length of the rise of boyfriend jeans is long, but they fit low on the torso, giving the effect of a dropped crotch is this low rise? Sorry if I am being obtuse
