Sounds like you're sorted, Sue Marie.

- blues are a slam dunk with shades of orange.

- nylons are not necessary unless stipulated in the dress code.

- pear shaped ladies look stunning in long cardigans. Make sure there is stucture on the neck and shoulders.

- no need to tuck into a pencil skirt. Although it is more formal to tuck. .

also not Angie...but here's my 2cents worth...

Cardigan---no idea, but I'd wear it long if you like it.

peachy/orange(ish) cardigan--, i like this color best with navy, grey is also good. and of course white. personally, if the cardi is more orange and less peach, I would tend to stay away from black.

Re nylons and tucking vs un-tucking. I think this is very dependent on the dress code, type of business and if you are customer facing or not. in my office, which was business casual until this past May (now I'd say we are casual business, ie jeans and sneakers ok, but no shorts/tees etc) un-tucking would be more the norm, as would no nylons. But we also skew young.....I'd also say that we run the gamut, and you will see a little of everything

You didn't mention whether you plan to wear that cardigan over jeans/pants, a skirt, or dress and the length you tend to wear those items as well as the footwear and level of contrast between the contrast and the other items.

I have a long torso and heavy very, very short legs. Low hip length and most tunic length tops, sweaters, and jackets which flatter most women cut me in half -- so it all depends on your proportions. High hip or cropped length makes my legs look longer but it can also make me look bottom heavy. Short/mini-skirt length seems to work for me (over cropped pants) but I haven't found a sufficiently structured sweater that works for me.

How about blues, greens, and navy with that peach? Less harsh than black. I might even try burgundy. Of course, there's also white and cream. I'm not a redhead, so I would also wear gray since that's the color of my hair.

Hope Angie doesn't mind if I jump in first!

What length of open or button sweater-cardigans allow your legs to look long? I'm pear shaped but love an almost knee-length sweater, before I go shopping I'd rather know what looks best which isn't always our 1st choice.

I think it really depends on individual height as well as body type, plus other individual variables. Being rather pear-ish myself, and 5'9", and not model-thin, I don't like longer (below the butt) sweaters. At least on me they tend to cling to and accentuate the wider bits, plus I only see my lower legs (which are not super shapely), so I also look a bit stumpified. A higher hip or cropped length gives more focus up top. Again, it depends on the individual. A shorter sweater on a long torso may make someones leg's look shorter.

Also, I am a redhead, fair skin, blue eyes and recently purchased a cardigan (mid thigh length) in a peach/orang-ish but other than black top/pants what color choices do you suggest?

I'll defer the Angie, and maybe other redheads in the forum can chime in.

Are tucked in blouses preferred more these days say for an office skirt or hung out with a belt over it?

Tucked for the office unless a business casual environment. And a straight hem. Somehow a regular shirttail (curved hem) over a skirt, in an office, looks to casual to me.

Last one, are nylons preferred when it comes to wearing dresses/skirts to the office?

I am old school. So, yes. But again this depends on your industry and specific office norms and geography. I don't know if you actually have a job in hand. If not,at least wear stockings on your interviews. At that point you can also scope out the other women in the office, and find out about the dress code.

Also wondering this re; more formal occasions-going out to 5 star restaurant, etc.

I think bare legs are ok for going out. At work you're supposed to be all about work. Otherwise, go for it.

Hi Angie,

I have googled this question but no true answer...

What length of open or button sweater-cardigans allow your legs to look long?

I'm pear shaped but love an almost knee-length sweater, before I go shopping I'd rather know what looks best which isn't always our 1st choice.

Also, I am a redhead, fair skin, blue eyes and recently purchased a cardigan (mid thigh length) in a peach/orang-ish but other than black top/pants what color choices do you suggest?

Are tucked in blouses preferred more these days say for an office skirt or hung out with a belt over it?

Last one, are nylons preferred when it comes to wearing dresses/skirts to the office? I'm returning to the work force in Jan and don't want to wear pants every day. Also wondering this re; more formal occasions-going out to 5 star restaurant, etc.

Glad I found your site.

Thanks, Sue
