I'm 100% with Steph. You need a fun little cocktail dress that doesn't need to be black – but black is nice too. No business casual!

How lucky that it's pretty much an anything goes dress code. If it were me, personally, I would probably be concerned about wearing something really formal, like a long gown, because I would worry that no one else would go that route and I would feel out of place. If I knew for sure that other people would be wearing gowns, though, I would definitely do the same, because it is always SO much fun to get really dressed up, and those occasions don't come around often.

If I was worried about being out of place, though, I would go the cocktail dress route. I think it is the safest because I would assume that there would definitely be people wearing cocktail attire. I would look for a fun not-too-fancy cocktail dress in a color or, if I found something cute and it was the only available color, in black.

As for the business casual route, it just doesn't seem all that fun, so that would be my last choice. It seems a waste of an occasion where I can wear non-work clothing. But all of this is personal preference. I think the most important thing is to wear something you feel great in.

My husband's holiday office party is being held at a historic Boston hotel in early December. The dress code is "anything from business casual to black tie." My husband will most likely be wearing a suit or at the very least, a sports jacket and tie.

I'm torn between going the classic "little black dress' route which can then be recycled (dressed down) for church, fancier-yet-every-day occasions like a girls' night out etc, or really do something show stopping.

I will definitely need help with styling (including shoe/boot suggestions).

If I go the business casual route - I have a black DVF-style wrap dress or an old black sheath from AT which is part of a suit, and that does not really fit very well any more (kind of poufy around the tummy area due to seaming). I don't have any tall dressy boots (aside from my Docs)...I probably have one pair of strappy patent shoes, but seems pretty cold for December, though of course we'll be inside.

Heeeeelp.
