Thanks Angie! Yes it makes sense, and I think your explanation plus help identifying my body shape clarifies why I haven't done so well picking knitting patterns, or clothing for that matter. (My daughter agrees with you and has told me I have a straight/boyish figure, not a pear shaped figure - she is an artist and obviously has a better eye than me!) I am planning to try some items that clearly have some angular drape, to see how they look and feel.

I'm relieved that this sweater pattern should still work out! I'm looking forward to getting to the end result!

Lovely cardi, and how clever you are to be knitting it from scratch.

The cardi will definitely work for your body type. In my experience, this type of boho look works on both curvy and straighter body types. You have a straighter boyish body type. Not curvy at all.

The cardi is not angular drape though - too gathered for that. Gathers create curves - as you can see on the lower half of the cardi. Hope that makes sense.

I love the Green Cardigans that Inge posted for Denise! In fact, I am knitting my own green cardigan which I started a few weeks ago. I have been knitting for over 20 years, but I have yet to accurately predict the correct style that will look right on me. I end up giving away around half the sweaters I make. Not due to fit issues, but because they end up looking ridiculous.

The particular sweater I chose is from Book 3 of the Araucania Collection by Jenny Watson, Design 4. (Picture 1 Below). I chose it because it has a high neckline and I have a long neck. It has what appears to be an empire style waist, and then it flares into an a-line.

However, and here is where I am getting worried, I read the recent post on structured drape. I believe that this sweater is angular drape, meaning that the lines are all straight, not curved. Perhaps with my body type I should be looking for something that has more curve, or more arty drape, or not? So that is the question. Do you think this sweater will work for my body type or do you think I should rip out what I have and find another pattern? Will this flare too much and look overwhelming on me? How about the type of drape? (So many questions!)

I assume to answer that you need to confirm my body type, so here is where I bare all, so to speak. I am 5'9". I weigh 128 pounds. My measurements are chest 33.5", waist 25.5", and hips 36.5". I am posting a picture of me in my athletic clothes, after a workout so I don't look wonderful, but you can see if you agree that I am pear shaped. (My dog is a camera hog sometimes!)

I'm also including a picture of my progress and the color of the yarn, which is green, in honor of Inge's posting of beautiful green cardigans. For those who knit, I know that some of the rows have looser stitches and that I need to rip them out and redo them to get the gauge correct.
