The first one is a good fit and fun look so if it fits your style keep. The leather one is classic - keep. I would pass the velvet and denim. I like the utility jacket but if it does not feel like you then it should also go.
I really like the cargo jacket (but I have 2 in different fabrications and wear them all the time, so I'm very very biased). Love the leather one too.

I like 1,4,and 6. I would pass on the velvet. It looks dated to my eye. Also, not sold on the cargo jacket. I like the idea of a cargo jacket, just not this one.

Elle-- I'm not the expert here just speaking from personal experience as I am an hourglass and have had a really hard time finding flattering jackets. My problem is definitely finding jackets that don’t hit me at the widest part of my hip. You have a lovely figure and sometimes people aren't interested in emphasizing a feminine silhouette in their personal style which means they could really enjoy styling your utility jacket. I got the impression from your photos that emphasizing your shape was something you enjoyed in your style choices—hence the advice. As for how short your jackets should be—the length of the first 2 are really flattering IMO.

The first jacket is fun and funky, fits well, and seems to fit in pretty well with your style, Elle - or at least your former style. (I say that because recent items or try-ons make it seem as if you are heading in an new direction.) On the one hand, it feels a bit dated to me. On the other hand, it's quite a unique piece and a fun statement.

The others are good if you feel good in them and find them easy to style. I have a bit of a poison eye for puffed sleeves and I'm not sure if you are particularly fond of them. If you are, and you like the jackets, then why not keep?

The utility jacket seems maybe a bit stiff and boxy for your style preferences? Or maybe the colour makes it hard for you to use? I'm not sure. I know I haven't found a utility jacket yet that doesn't seem to swamp me somehow. Maybe that is what you are feeling, too.

I love #1! So eclectic and boho! Fab fit.

I like the leather jacket too. Very Rocker Chic.

I vote pass on the last two jackets. The velvet is dated *for you*, while the utility jacket does not make you feel fab. FWIW, I like the on trend utility jacket! If anyone can wear jackets like that across their hips - you can. It's fab over dresses too.
Robin does the widest part of the hip thing look bad on every body type? I am an hourglass but an 8 hourglass & don't feel that my hips are big. If I never took photos & got help on YLF I even might have thought I was an IT. So I guess my question is should everyone avoid tops & jackets that hit at the widest part of the hip? This is hard for me because as an 8 the widest part is not just one point. It goes from just below my waist to the top of my thighs. In other words I go out, then straight down for a while before going back in again, if that makes sense. I'm thinner now but the shape is still the same & the photo here shows what I mean. I went back & looked at all the photos & I think they all hit at the widest part of the hip. Maybe it is the colour or stiffness or gearness of it, though utilitie jackets are very trendy.

I think I know why you don't like the last jacket-- it hits you at the widest point in your hip, which is rarely a flattering look for anyone. I would downgrade to the gear capsule or pass it on. I agree with Rachy-- keep the first 2.

Hi Angie,

I loved your post on jackets & have started to figure out what jackets I do & don't need. Maybe purge some & maybe buy some. Are these jackets dated? Pic 1, 2 & 3- Corduroy with stripes & embroidered flowers (pattern mixing :)) Barely puffed sleeve. It is by Johnny Was. If it is a keep is it trans seasonal or fall/winter only? Thanks.

Pic 4 & 5 - Dark brown distressed looking leather by Wilson Leathers. I bought it vintage so I'm not sure if it started out distressed or is really distressed.

Pic 6 - Kenneth Cole velvet blazer in chocolate.

Pic 7 - Marc Jacobs denim blazer with slightly puffed sleeve.

Pic 8 & 9 - Grey waxed cotton utility jacket. I don't htik it is dated but I never feel good in it. Do you know why? Is it just that I haven't figured out good ways to style it?

Thanks:)
