Meredith's right -- we all use the space a little differently.

I arrived here via a link from Bella's blog on remixing pieces; found out about capsule dressing from Angie's blogpost on the link it led to. I liked it, and browsed for more capsules in the archives.

Which led me to the archive of her 'formula' posts and to her own outfits archive. Realizing that I admire her style as well as (VERY IMPORTANT to me) her perspective on fashion as fun, doable for everyone, and not restrictive was what got me hooked to her blog (Inge's link). Better still, she explains the mechanisms of fit and proportion, very generously sharing her own stylist's insight into the industry as well as into pulling an outfit together.

So I then realized that I had enough confidence in Angie to explore her body-shape guidelines (that archive is linked to on the landing page of the website) -- it's an area often TOO full of don'ts in many magazines, blogs, and other websites. Having looked at her suggestions for various body shapes, I was unsure of my own! Which brought me to the forum...

...where I lingered and lurked for a long time (months! I'm a paranoid android), looking at other people's What I Wore (WIW) posts and their questions on fashion or fit or body shape, noticing how helpful and supportive the interaction between members was, and how different perspectives added up to a very well-rounded whole. That in turn gave me confidence to delurk and ask about my own shape --- and Inge replied, sorting me out in no time!

I then figured I was in for a penny, so may as well throw in a pound... and started chatting to other members on different threads. Asking, commenting, reading around a lot... until I had:
-- identified people whose style or lifestyle is in line with my own, and started to follow them
-- got up the gumption to post a few photos of my own (sometimes scary) outfits and ask for feedback
-- learnt new ways to wear and pair garments
-- asked directly about fit and fashion questions that puzzled me (bracelet sleeves, pattern mixing vs frump)
-- found out just from browsing the forum about organized closets, remixing, discipline, proportions and colour combinations (the Link Love blogposts and threads are a goldmine for inspiration!)
-- found out the latest trends from Angie's blog, and how to make them work off the runway in everyday life for more mainstream lifestyles
-- and hopefully made a few people smile and managed to offer some helpful advice now-and-again!

What I'm trying to say is, in short: This is a very supportive community and a very well-interlinked site, so dip into whatever area catches your interest or your eye... and you'll soon find yourself led into related areas and figuring out your own YLF (You Look Fab) map in no time!

Welcome to the party!

welcome! I second all of the above plus if I am trying to figure out a particular problem I would use the search tool to check archived forum posts and Angie's advice. I have only been around a short time and have found it so helpful already!

Welcome! When I joined I read the blog posts and forum for a while before I started responding to people. It can feel really overwhelming at first but before you know it, you will be part of the gang! This is a very friendly, supportive place.

After you get comfortable just moving around the site and maybe responding to some of the posts you should start a conversation (just like you did with this post) and then you can get feedback on specific topics you want to talk about. Pretty soon you can start posting picture also. The archives where Angie keeps articles and her fabulous outfit postings that I just adore are another great place to do some reading. I find myself also paying attention to the brands, stores of items that other people post that I am interested in. Everyone uses the site in a slightly different way I think.
