Thanks everyone! I found a lovely lightweight black skirt suit at Nordstrom (peplum jacket, so it's feminine in spite of the color) and I have a beige jacket that I will mix & match. low comfortable black pumps from Clarks. Thank you for the advice!

I echo all the suggestions here. Formal and classic is good. Options because of the heat. Blouses that are perspiration friendly. Lightweight jackets. Comfy shoes. Have a good trip.

A friend's husband was in the Marines and stationed at the embassy in Nairobi. He said it was really dangerous. They lived in some gated community and had to take different routes to and from the embassy each day to avoid being car jacked. This was probably five years ago or so. I don't know about any dress code. My friend's husband wore his military uniform.

My neighbor goes to Africa frequently on business incl. Nairobi (he's a guy). My sense is that the dress code is formal for the professionals. Hope someone with more direct experience can chime in. (The British influence is evident I believe.)

Not THE Angie but incidentally my name is Angie...

Never been there but I have worked in various countries around the world. A few quick thoughts.

Google to find out what you can re the dress code in that country, industry (govt), city, etc
Consider the climate and if the temps swing or are pretty steady
Never be afraid to be overdressed vs underdressed
I would err to the side of conservative - suits, etc.
make sure your footwear is appropriate yet comfy if you will be walking or having long days with formal dinners after for example
Make sure your hair is freshly cut / colored if you do that
Keep jewelry fairly simple, I wouldn't do any big statements (jewelry or otherwise)
Read up on cultural behaviors and norms
Don't forget the confidence :)

Hopefully Angie or someone with specific experience there can chime in but those are my basic tips for your situation. Good luck.

I'm about to go on a business trip to Nairobi where some of my meetings with be with government officials. (It's also warm there this time of year, in the 70's & 80's F) I'm sure I should dress pretty conservatively, but would love some advice on how formal/conservative to go, and what that looks like. Suits, or at least a jacket every day? how much color is OK? is a (short sleeved) sweater set OK? skirts or pants? boots OK with skirts or not? Any recommendations would be appreciated!
