Ditto to what rachylou and Suz posted. My wardrobe has changed over the years due to different climates, lifestyles, and occupations. It makes no sense to have things hanging in my closet that never get worn. I'm not a minimalist, but I don't like wasting hard-earned $.

What Rachylou said. I am still in process with this. But reassessing according to what I actually do with my time has been huge. I also have to consider weather because of living in a four season (really more like a six season) climate.

I think the biggest thing for me was assessing what I really do with my time and how much time I spend on each activity. Rebalancing my wardrobe according to what I spend my doing has made it infinitely more satisfying and workable.

Great advice Lisa, my trouble spot in the past has been buying for a former life not the one I live now. Also when trying something new, like getting rid of black in your wardrobe, don't make investment piece decisions. Last year I went out and bought two gorgeous cashmere turtlenecks. No black. Well it took more than three trips to the store to finally buy a second colour. Guess what, I never wear it and am always looking for a black one to match my wardrobe...
While I would never consider a cashmere turtleneck an investment piece in my former wardrobe now as a retired sahm who cooks I do. I always have to throw a fleece blazer over it when I cook as I need my arms covered and my apron does not do that. Most often I just change out of the turtleneck.

Not Angie, but it may be helpful to think about your daily activities and the outfits you need for them (work, play, working out, etc). Then you can create mini capsules and branch out from there.

Lately I've been drawn to try some out-of-comfort styles (e.g., track pants), and I've been tempted to pounce on some random impulse buys (inexpensive bronze booties). Then, this morning, I saw a skirt in the new Tory Burch winter line that seems very me but would be more of an investment piece. I admit, I am feeling somewhat scattered. At this point in my life, while I don't want to be rigid, I would like to be more organized and strategic in my styling. How do I begin? I've read a bit about and seen some wardrobe capsules on YLF, but I am
not sure if that is the way to start organizing and assessing my
wardrobe.
