I don't know if I suggested this before, but the Levi's Made and Crafted (their high end line) "Pins" model is low rise and you can find them for not much at all at places like MyHabit. Check for them on eBay maybe? Mine run small. Oh and as a benefit they stay up.

I can't offer you help for Canadian stores and shopping, but I will say that there are LOTS of midrise jeans in the Midwest, so don't worry that the trend is taking over everywhere. I have been doing a lot of shopping lately--both online and in-store--and I have seen way more midrise than high rise. I don't see a lot of low-rise, though.

I was just in J. Crew the other day, and I don't think they even carry the high rise in the store. I had ordered a pair just to see how they would look on me (I am short too, with a short torso), and although they were very comfy, they made me look like a space alien. I was all leg! I put the midrise jeans on that I had also ordered, and they looked SO MUCH better.

As far as the midrise being high rise on you, can you find petite sizes? I have been really strict about staying in petite sizing, and it's really helping issues like this. But I know that it can be tough finding much in petites'.

One other thought, though perhaps you've already considered it: Can you avoid shipping charges if you order certain items in-store? I have ordered stuff from J. Crew in-store, and they waive the shipping charge then. Not sure if that kind of benefit exists where you are.

Angie -- praise be. I can wait a couple of years! I feel like North America has been seized by a high-rise mania, but if it will subside enough in two years that I can find pants again, I am happy. :-)

(Note: I am not looking for a return to low-rise everything. Low-rise jeans are an underwear-revealing disaster for many women, and I totally understand that. Why can't we just have an even distribution of all rises?) ;-)

Grayscale: I agree, just say no to buttcrack, lol. Different rises work for different women!

Annagybe: I'd take the bus, but time is a major consideration, and I have the car anyway. This semester was completely mental. I don't think I had a day off after Halloween!

Janet: the awful black dye smell? I've never even heard of that! Now I'm going to pay attention to see if I notice it.

Bonnie G: I have a few pairs of low-rise jeans, but it bothers me that I can't just go out and get more to replace them! ;-)

Laura -- I can indeed find lots of officially "mid-rise" jeans, but they are pretty high on me. Close to my belly button. Like I said, what's marked as "low-rise" is actually mid-rise on me. Which is why I don't have the butt-crack problem that so many average-height women have with low-rise jeans. :-)

High-rise doesn't work for me either. I'm surprised you're having such a hard time finding mid-rise, though - maybe it's worse because you're petite, so someone else's mid-rise is your high-rise?

I'm not an expert on Canadian stores but I'd try Old Navy, Gap, etc., as well as department stores that carry a lot of different brands. And doesn't Aritizia carry denim? I've had a lot of good luck at JC Penney recently with basic denim - neither frumpy nor trendy.

I like low rise jeans better for the same reasons you like them. I'm glad I bought 5 pairs last year which should last for a while. I'm sorry to hear that they are so hard to find now.

It's getting really hard to find lower rises. I hope you have some success with the suggestions you've gotten.

As you know, I fear the high rise too. Fortunately, I'm ok with mid-rise, and I'm pretty well stocked up on jeans right now.

I did buy a pair of high-rise black flares from Anthro. They seem to fit and flatter me better than any high rises I've encountered in a very long time, but I would have to wear them with untucked tops. Tucking plus high rise on me is a sure fire way to make my proportions (big bust but narrow on top, short torso, and wide hips and thighs) look even more disproportionate than they are! However, I haven't worn them yet because I'm trying to rid them of that awful black dye smell that some black jeans have. If I'm not successful, they'll have to go back.

Huh, I have a large bust, definitely not a flat stomach. I'm looking for very high rise jeans, like at least 10" ideally.
Sense, Canadian retailer is having a sale. You might have to look up or contact them re measurements, some look low rise.

https://www.ssense.com/en-us/w.....hing/jeans

Also perhaps look at teen brands, perhaps.

ETA re parking, are you close to a sky train station. Parking is expensive in downtown Seattle too, I take the bus most often.

As someone with the opposite problem, I've noticed a handful of low rise jeans in stores, so they're out there! I just tried a great pair of Zara jeans that are described as 'mid rise' but actually show butt crack when I sit down (not cool!), which is my usual test for too low. I might get them anyway because the fit is so great otherwise, and wear with longer tops. So, keep trying! You'll find something, but I know how frustrating it is.

Do you have Zara near you? I know their stuff isn't the highest quality but they do a good job with their jeans, especially the slightly pricier ones.

I echo what Gradfashionista said - low rise jeans DO exist in the US, Elisabeth (there are plenty in fact) - but you aren't comfortable purchasing them from Canada with the strong US$ and the bad exchange rate. I get that. You need to come shop down south!

(Try American Eagle. Do you have one of those in Canada? Or Yoox.com)

To answer your question - high rises are now a totally mainstream trend and my gut says that the look will hold its place in fashion forever - just like skinnies are holding onto their place in fashion forever. But lower rises will become more fashionable - and to your point, a wider range of rises will once again become more available. In a couple of years is my guess.

Thanks, gradfashionista! And yes, I have seen a number low-rise jeans to choose from off the Nordstrom website. But it still costs money to ship and return them to Canada, so it's kind of a no-go. I did actually try that recently: I ordered a pair of Citizens "Racer" skinnies and I thought it would be all right because I already have a pair. Well, the new pair did not fit (even though they were the same size) so I had to take them back. I could return them directly to the Nordstrom store, but that was inconvenient (and it costs $10 just to park downtown for half an hour!) and I didn't get the original cost of shipping back either. So it basically cost me $20 to try on a pair of jeans that didn't fit.

It's just too risky to order online, unless it's from a Canadian retailer.

I will keep my eye open for Current/Elliot stiletto jeans, though.

My hope is that soon the high-rise craze will fade a bit, and a wider range of rises will be widely available in-store.

I feel your pain, but happily, I've seen low rise jeans in ample quantity on Nordstrom's and Shopbop websites. Burberry Brit, Current Elliott, and Rag and Bone carry low rise styles sold on both sites, and deliver to Canada, while Nordstrom's has B and M stores there. It might be worth it to just do a mass order and pay for returns, hoping that one or two pairs work out, since the Bay and other chain stores don't always have the best selection. By the way, I highly recommend the C/E stiletto jeans. Low-/mid-rise and short (28") inseam.

Please, Angie, can you tell me: how long will the high-rise trend last? How long do major trends usually last? I have nothing against them for other people, but they're just not for me and it's starting to cause problems. I realize I am obsessed about this, but I live in jeans and I can't find any I like. I went to our new Nordstrom recently (yay! we have a Nordstrom!) and they had NOT ONE PAIR of low-rise jeans on offer. Not one. They have mid-rise but those are almost always quite high on me anyway, and look and feel bad. I need low-rise because those are actually mid-rise on me.

It's too expensive to order online and return things, as I live in Canada. I need to shop in real stores.

This excerpt from the eBay "high-waisted jeans buying guide" (http://www.ebay.com/gds/High-W.....003/g.html) explains my ongoing frustration with the current higher rise jeans:

"High-Waisted Jeans and Figure Flattery
The high-waisted jeans look is very attractive on the right figure type, but unfortunately, it is not a universally flattering cut. Many women will do well to steer clear of very high-waisted pants:

Very large-breasted women can look unattractive in a high-waisted garment because the waist comes up to just under the bust, making it look as if the breasts are sitting on top of the waist, even if they are up where they should be.
Most short women do not have the torso length to pull off a high-waisted pant, as again, the waist ends just beneath the bust, resulting in a somewhat dumpy look. Petites who do happen to have a longer torso and shorter legs will still do better to avoid this look, which will call attention to her proportions and likely make her look even shorter.
In fact, even women of moderate height or tall women with short legs and a long torso may be highlighting their proportions by wearing a high-waisted style.
Any woman who does not have a perfectly flat stomach will not look her best in high-waisted jeans, as this style calls attention to the very area she likely wants to camouflage. A body shaper may be worn to flatten the tummy and narrow the waist somewhat.
If a woman has a rear on the flat side, high-waisted jeans will make the rear appear even smaller and flatter. Padded panties can be worn to fill out the seat attractively."

There you go. I'm petite, so the torso length ain't there. And I already have a small flat butt -- why make it look flatter? (Plus, padded panties? haha NO). And although I'm not what you'd call buxom, I'm always trying to make my bust seem smaller because I like the look of a small bust. The higher the rise, the larger my bust tends to look. This little excerpt confirms it -- I'm not just imagining things!
