Donna beat me to it. I was also going to suggest a bib apron in the kitchen.

If you wear an apron every time you are in the kitchen, it should alleviate the problem; it did for me and DH (the cook).

I think La Ped is right. The quality of Ts is part of the issue and then the rubbing is another factor.

I know this has been discussed on here before, and I think all the likely culprits have been identified upthread.

FWIW, I buy many fewer t-shirts than I used to, and wear them less often, because the quality, especially for women's, is so low. Very thin, stitching that comes undone, etc. I tend to think of them more as undershirts or a base layer, as they were originally intended to be, rather than a standalone top. I'm slowly transitioning my summer top selection to woven cotton and linen, as budget allows. The wovens are crisper and less sweaty in the heat anyway.

Companies, off the top of my head, that seem to make reasonably durable t-shirts:

American Giant (I like the fabrics but almost everything they make is cut too long for me)

James Perse (too pricy for my cheapskate tastes but people do rave about them)

Tradlands (I have a long sleeve henley in their jersey fabric and it is nice old-fashioned sturdy jersey)

Three Dots (even purchased second hand they seem to last a good long time)

I do like Uniqlo for tees too, although there are so many options it can be hit-or-miss. The Supima rib is nice if you want fitted and don't mind a bit of spandex, the Lemaire collab tees are nice and sturdy, and any of the 100% cotton graphic tees seem to hold up pretty well; I'm not as sold on the modal blend graphic tees, they get a bit fuzzy after a bunch of washes, but they don't fall apart.

I think this is just the life of tshirts. A Polyester or nylon blend would probably make them a little more durable.

One more thing can be stone counter tops that have rough edges on the underside. I had to tape a few spots under mine to stop this from happening since I cook a lot and tend to lean into the counter.

I have a lovely velvet sweat shirt that this happened too. I was so disappointed and really wanted to figure out how this happened as I had only worn it a few times. After some investigation, I realized that it was from the stem of the belt buckle in combination with the lap portion of my seat belt causing too much friction in that area. Now I make sure my shirts aren't in contact with my seatbelt when I am driving.

I tend to get little holes in my tee shirts right around the belly area after sometimes just a year, or two years max. I don't remember this happening in my 20s (and I spent most of my 30s in maternity clothing, so I don't know what was happening then). Do they just not make them like they used to, or do I need to spend more on tees? (Ha, or maybe my belly sticks out more than it used to!)

My tees do get heavy wear—I have a small wardrobe (probably a stack of 8 to 10 tees at a time) and in the spring/summer/fall wear one almost daily. I've noticed that it happens around the button of my jeans, and I've caught myself rubbing that zone against the counter when washing dishes. But again—would I get longer-lasting tees if I spent a little more, or is this just the life of tees and I should expect to replace them annually or so?
