Hi shorti007, great advice from Angie already; a photo helps the most! Fellow short-waisted IT here, though hourglass is my secondary and my torso is normal-bordering-long. I generally use the IT guidelines for just the shoulders and then follow my other body type advice for the rest; if I follow the IT guidelines only then I get loads of loose fabric everywhere else. As a rectangle secondary you may have good luck with brands that use a straighter fit model (e.g. JCrew) and then sizing to your shoulders to minimize the excess fabric. I do find that IT guidelines can help to minimize torso shortness for waist defining outfits, since when shoulders are also emphasized then the torso ends up looking even shorter in those cases.

Thanks, Parsley.

Welcome shorti0007! For starters, broad shoulders and small bust dressing also has a lot to do with the length of your neck. If it's on the short side, V-necks and scooped boat necks work really well.

Short torso and long legs means you are short waisted, but the length of your rise needs to be taken into account too. Perhaps you can post a photo and we get down to the nitty gritty details? That way my tools are sharper

Not Angie here, but have you tried looking through the archives? There are tons of great outfit ideas for all shapes. You can probably get lots of ideas from our forum members' WIWs, too. Some ITs that come to mind are alaskagirl and kellygirl. If you do a search for them you can find their posts.
Hi Angie

I am slightly inverted triangle shape (broad shoulders, small boobs) with a bit aof a rectangle shape too. I have a short torse & long legs & often, advice on how to dress for these body shapes is conflicting... could you give me some guidlines about dressing?
I mostly follow the inverted triange advice & find myself wearing looser tops and end up without a defined waist!
Thanks!
