Oh I'm sorry, Marianne. Perhaps you'll get some shopping in on Wed? I hope to as well. And so will the rest of Seattle I’m sure. I’m wishing lots of play dates for you

The weather completely ruined my shopping plans. I was hoping to spend some time over the weekend. I was wondering about the stores, since they have already been hurting.

Thank you for your sympathy, Julijuli. I've exhausted all entertainment options today - art projects, baking, reading, you name it. Hoping for a playdate tomorrow.

Lena, here, here! Bring back the Pacific North West rain. Snow is magical at first but for me, the whole snow thing gets stale after a while. And it gets VERY messy when it starts to melt. I‘m hoping for Winter temperatures ABOVE freezing.

The extremely snowy weather has killed Seattle Xmas retail. Quite sad actually.

Angie - you are SO right! Although I'm sick of the snow I give thanks every day that we have power. The puppy is tired of running around in our small backyard, but taking her for a walk is tough. We did walk to the grocery store and Starbucks today so I'm feeling a little better. Going to try another trip to the Junction soon. Marianne - I know it's a little challenging (and exhausting) keeping the little ones occupied at home - hope you can find lots of fun things to do together.

Stay Warm everyone!

I feel so bad for all the people stranded at the airport! Snow is nice for those of us at home, but can make travel such a nightmare! This seems like such an unusual Christmas, in terms of retail business and now the weather.

Hope your Uggs come soon, Julie, those look great! Warm and with good tread.

I love those Uggs, I'm not a fan of the slipper boot types, but I'd totally wear those ones.

I too am stuck in a snowy deep freeze. I'm tired of mid thirty below wind chills. Thankfully, it's going to warm up some for Christmas! Into the single digits below zero (Celsius). Probably around 25 F. I can't wait, and neither can my boys. They've had such a hard time seeing all this snow, and having it too cold to play in!

Tanya, I'm so glad you escaped the snow and flight cancellations. People are stranded at airports everywhere.

I'm in Oregon and also live on a hill I know some people who live on even higher and steeper hills and they couldn't get down at all last week. And we have the same situation with lack of de-icing and sanding. It's been lousy. It seems that our states were caught unprepared. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm glad it's back to business as usual down here - RAIN RAIN RAIN. I hope it doesn't freeze again.

Seattleites, I hope your thaw out soon.

Judy, I also love how quiet it gets when it snows. But enough already

Glad you escaped the snow, Tanya. Thank goodness!

Judy, I know exactly what you mean. I’m ready to get a little rude with the City of Seattle. They don’t even sand the residential areas, never mind de-icer! It is beautiful though and we too are fine to get to a grocery store and other amenities on foot. As you say, it’s all about the right clothes. We live close to you!

A friend of a friend’s saw the I5 bus catastrophe happen and took pictures with his phone. What was the driver thinking! Thomas is a tiny cobbled street on a HUGE slope. It’s unbelievable.

Little Britain is BRILLIANT. We have just finished watching the American version of “Office”. It’s brilliant too.

First I wanted to say that those boots are gorgeous! I want them too!

I managed to escape the snow My flight left Boston at 10 am on Friday and it started snowing around 2 pm. No snow so far in NM. Some is predicted for tonight, but it will probably melt in the morning.

Angie those huge busses were only a couple of blocks from my apartment. What a horrible disaster that could have been! If the city of Seattle would just break down and use de-icer, life would return to normal much more quickly...everyone could drive at least. I guess it's for the environment that they only use sand, but it's not effective really. Ok, I'll get off my soap box about that now...:)

I am loving the snow actually...it is all about having the right footwear and jacket! But I don't have little kids at home (any more)...I know how hard that can be!...or dogs to walk and I always walk to the store, so yes, I am just grateful every day for heat and hot water and that we can cook, after my parents four day power outage. Having grown up in New England in snow, I am comforted by the fact that our Seattle snow will be gone before too long and the white is so pretty. I love how quiet it gets when it snows too and how life slows down.

We've been watching season one and two of LIttle Britain...and then yesterday we discovered there was another Little Britain USA on HBO so we watched that too! It's completely hilarious and addicting.

I hear you! I am SICK of the snow. I can’t take our dogs for a walk because they get completely buried under it - there is just too much snow. We have to keep on shoveling smooth a part of garden so that they can go to the loo. I’m ready for the thaw. Another few days at best. It doesn’t help that we live on a hill too and don’t have snow tires either. Most Seattleites live on a hill I guess. It‘s a hilly place.

The most important thing to be thankful for is power. I’d have gone bezerk if we didn’t have heat. We’ll just have to deal ladies. It’s treacherous out there and people are sledding everywhere. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who has had enough of the snow.

Did you see the school buses that almost went over the I5?

Same here, Julijuli! I've been home with the kids most of last week, and was getting the worst cabin fever. Yesterday I was able to get out, but had to walk down our hill, which is so slippery I barely made it. We also live on a slope and can't get the car out, and it's not a 4wd anyway. Fortunately I can walk to grocery stores and such, but with the kids it's a hassle and we don't really have any snow shoes - there was never a need for them all these years I've lived here. And now it looks like we'll be stuck at home most of this week too! I am also afraid with this prolonged cold streak we'll lose quite a few plants. Rhodies can only take so much cold :(

Nice purchase, by the way!

Thanks everyone - those boots can't come soon enough - I am SO done with this snow and it just keeps coming. Apparently we are getting 6 more inches tonight? Yikes! I have total cabin fever and am going to walk to our little neighborhood downtown tomorrow if it kills me (or gets me totally soaked). Even though we have 4 wheel drive we can't get our cars out our street as it is a steep hill and there is too much snow and ice. How are the rest of you Seattleites faring?

Alright, I'll put it on next year's xmas list, Angie.. until then... I'll be wearing the slipper-boot ones when necessary! :-)

I have another pair that aren't so slipper-bootish, but also aren't as warm. I do think the wide part of the boot - the ugly part - is a factor in the warmth: warm enough to allow heat from your body to build up within the sheep skin.... (yep, I've thought about this much-too-much).

These Uggs are great, jj! Go for it.

It's the “classic Ugg slipper-looking” boot that I put in the Crocs box. I know that there are people on this forum who wear them, and it is not my intention to hurt your feelings. I would not be doing my job if I didn’t express this point of view. I think you can do better than the classic Ugg and jj did it this afternoon. Well done!

I was out Christmas shopping with DH today (trying to get it all done before the big storm hits!) and my wonderful hubby purchased these boots for me. They didn't have my size in black so they are being shipped. I really did want to get a pair of Uggs for the warmth, but was conflicted because I also wanted a pair of boots that were a little nicer looking, waterproof yet still casual. Do these fit the bill? Or should I return them and hold out for La Canadiennes going on sale.
