Well, I have ordered it! I am returning quite a bit from my original order so perhaps there is room in the budget for this.

I beg your pardon.

A dressy professional scientist needs to take this gillet home and see if it will work with her wardrobe.

I dont know what to Say C1. I said to Suz in her post she should wait to find something in a lighter weight, but it's hard to really commit to that position when the garment is so fab.

I wonder if it *would* be something you'd wear instead of a schoolboy blazer. I mean, the arms make it a bit colder, but as you say, the colour and structure are there.

It is also more dramatic and eye catching than a blazer. I think of it as a grown up piece too.

I guess it depends on whether you need to spend your budget in more practical areas. Like, for example, do you still have wardrobe holes to fill?

Yes, order it, C1, and style it as you might -- that will give you the true test. And since it only costs temporarily to order (assuming you send back, that is, LOL) you have nothing to lose.

Lisa, it's not terribly practical as outerwear in our climate -- although I am sure I'll wear mine as such on certain fall days, perhaps layered under something or over something.

But as indoor wear it is practical presuming you are not curled up all day.

In other words, for me, this isn't a work at home piece. It's not a piece I'd wear if I were sitting at my desk all day. But it's a piece I'd wear if I were out and about somewhere, teaching, presenting, etc.

I also thought it would be easier to judge if you had it styled somewhat. However, I still question how practical it will be for New England weather.

Thank you, Angie! I don't think it's pulling, at least it didn't feel like it was pulling when I wore it. I was never considering sizing down, and sizing up might make it too big up top.

If I were to get it, do you think I should get it altered? I could wear it with boots/booties with a small heel but won't be wearing it altered.

I'm actually a dressy professional scientist now--so have a somewhat less casual norm around me, though still not soo different.

Hmm, sounds like I have to get it and style it with actual fall/winter clothes to properly decide

I can't see the fit that well over the hips because dark colours don't photograph details that well - but is it pulling, C1? You definitely do not want to go smaller. Not sure you need a size bigger either. Also hard to tell because you're wearing Summer clothes.

That said, you can wear the gillet open no problem. It looks wonderful on you! Although perhaps a little long. But not too bad.

Only you will know if you will wear it. You ARE a dressy student who defies her environmental norm, so I'm not worried about the dressy factor and your style.

Hi Angie, I tried on "your" gilet (and Suz' and Staysfit's!) this weekend, and thought it was a lovely piece but too long and potentially too impractical for me. It was definitely the most impressive garment I saw at Nordstrom this weekend though! I'm still thinking about it, especially after seeing Suz's thread, so I'd appreciate your thoughts on whether this works well for me (I'd still have to think about whether I'd wear it enough to justify the price, but that's on me to decide). I definitely wear navy toppers a lot--like you and Suz, I would not be interested in this piece were it black.

Thanks in advance!

P. S. Unfortunately I didn't style it at all here, I'm dressed for the 93 deg F day we had on Saturday...
