Thank you so much so much for your input, everyone! I have started thinking about and planning my fall/winter wardrobe, and right booties are huge part of it, so expect a bunch of booties posts from me in the future.

Deb and Lisa, I hope you will find this thread helpful.

Smittie and Always Trying, thank you for your input! Of course what I personally like matters, but I have tried and worn all the options in the past and I like them equally well. I am merely curious about what is the most current way to way booties that are not the newest as I have quite a few pairs and would like to continue to wear them in an updated manner.

Cerinda, I would probably hem those pants just a smidgen shorter than the top of the booties. Perhaps consider posting a photo/starting a new thread?

Ledonna, thank you! I like both of those as well.

Angie, no need to apologize, I hope you managed your obligations in a timely manner and thank you for chiming in. I am mostly interested in how to wear these lower shaft booties with skinny/straight pants/jeans, other types of bottoms don't get much wear from me in the fall. Obviously, such booties work well under long flares too. If I understood your answer correctly,
1. Lower shaft booties can be worn with cropped straights/flares too as long as the ankle fit is sleek enough? This is news to me, I thought those pants always require higher booties.
2. Full length skinnies are still worn best with lower shaft booties with a little scrunch?
3. Is the rolled/cuffed look (till right above the booties) present so much in the recent years with BF jeans not so fresh anymore?

Unfrumped, your input is much appreciated. What you describe sounds like a timeless modern classic look.

Aida, thank you so much for your input! I am very glad to hear that such a stylish Fabber wore all the four options last fall, and will probably do so this fall as well. Id id your little folding before scrunching trick too

Tanya, last fall I did all four of the options you described except the last because I (still) don't have the booties for it but I dearly wanted to. For full length skinnies I did do a little fold under so that there was LESS scrunch than previously. Almost always I was aiming for, at minimum, a little sliver of skin showing regardless of method because optically you get the effect of "cropped pants" that way and that's what felt most modern especially with older booties. And I cuffed more for weekend/casual looks, and folded under for work/dressier looks. Planning to do just the same this fall, except that this season I actually have some properly cropped pants so I won't have to fold as often

I am wearing mineunder long " bootcuts" of whatever style. Also, if the boot shaft is nicely fitted I can wear long straight pants over them, so I am focused on that good ankle fit for that reason. This is not a high- fashion look, but is a polished work look for winter especially ( no snow but too cold for bare ankles) because a good straight wool pant is a wardrobe staple, and low- heeled booties with a thin sock have high potential for foot comfort, while the smooth vamp gives a sleek look when wearing a lower heel.

Tanya, excuse my brevity - I'm in a rush. From my own wardrobe as examples - this is what I do:

I wear short shaft booties like #1 with regular length scrunched skinnies or under LONG flares. I also wear them with skirts, culottes and cropped flares/straights. The VERY tailored fit on the ankle is imperative.

I wear #2 with LONG flares, skirts, harem pants and cropped flares/straights.

Just what I've been pondering, Tanya. I tired of #3 last year, so I scrunched and folded, but I'll be trying again. I'm also considering shortening my black and dark denim straight legs to wear with higher-shaft boots; as you noted, that shorter length feel fresh. Any suggestions for what length to hem slim burgundy ponte pants to wear with a tonal bootie?

I think it is what suits you. no skin, and even socks for cold weather, more leg if the weather is very warm. And also your body proportions like leg length etc. the proportions for your outfit. type of pants or jeans you are wearing--many factors.

For very casual rolled jeans look great with most bootie types, for a dressy look a long unbroken line looks better, so no skin showing would be the way to go. so it is like Smittie said, what you like. This is what makes fashion fun, and our individual styles.

I think you can probably wear shorter booties with crops and a bit of ankle showing too, maybe with a sock to close the gap a little. I guess it all depends on what YOU like.
I personally prefer to completely close the gap, so I'd opt for higher shaft booties with crops every time, and long skinnies or flares with shorter boots.

With fall dressing becoming the fashion focus, I have footwear on my mind, as it is the crucial point for me when putting outfits together. I am aware that the most current boots and pants combo involves higher shaft booties worn with cropped straight or kick flare jeans. However, there are still plenty of booties, with shorter, regular height shaft around and I am curious about what are the best ways to wear them in 2016 regarding pant hems, assuming ubiquitous skinny/relaxed skinny/slim straight pant cuts. Some options would be:
1. With full length skinnies, scrunched
2. With full length skinnies, folded under for a neat look, no skin showing
3. With skinnies cuffed right above the top of the booties, a sliver of skin showing
4. With cropped skinnies ending right above the boot
Which of these looks best right now, and feel free to suggest any alternatives I haven't though of. Also, a related question is what is the best way to wear regular length skinnies with booties.
