I am self-conscious about the size of my feet - one of my childhood nicknames (from my father, who is goofy) was 'fetus feet'. It occurs to me this is why I worry about foot-eating pants.

Although 5.5 isn't really THAT small, is it?

I thought wide-leg pants were supposed to eat your feet? No? Because of all the extra fabric? If you hem them shorter, they look like too-short pants.

I think they look good as is, for what it's worth. :-)
8 1/4. If you're thinking about ordering, they run big - these are a size down from what I usually wear - my normal size was slouchy, which I think doesn't work with these legs.

Also, they are kind of short - they shrank a couple inches when washed - I'm 5' 4", with short legs but 3-inch heels.

Totally the look. Pointy shoes go a long way with these, but in sandals that doesn't sound as feasible. Also as Denise pointed out, less platform will also help especially if you've got higher heels underneath; it'll arch your foot and make it even more foot eating, yes, but you'll avoid odd folds at the hem. I have a few pairs of this type of pant and love them, but I do have a strong 70s streak in me. For me, I wear either high heels to completely hide my feet, platform sandals to show a little peek of toe, or very pointy heels peeking out from underneath.

This is what PPL looks like if you are wearing heels. My toes always stick out a bit even in wider leg pants because I wear a fairly low heel height that makes my feet effectively longer in front.
I love (!!!) these shoe eating pants! I think this is the way wide legs are supposed to look. Of course, I always wear them with pointy toes or peep toes, so that my shoes can peep out and flirt with the onlooker. Maybe hem them slightly to show a bit more shoe, but only a tiny bit. They look gorgeous in 1 and 2 as Denise said.

I actually think I would hem them and am intrigued by the idea that of course you could get a tiny hem up in front and leave the back longer. I mean they are actually dragging on the floor, so the idea that being 1 mm off the floor is the goal is not really practical. You would have to have a Vulcan mind-meld with the tailor (or do it yourself) to be sure they got it right. This of course if you've got a target shoe--hard to mix shoes for PPL's.

Platform shoes contribute to this look. I think it looks fine, except from the side, where it almost looks like the pants are smaller than the circumference of the shoe, that you might trip? If you wore these with a shoe with less of a platform, that might help. Or, get them hemmed a bit shorter in front as others have suggested. Or leave as is. In pictures 1 and 2 they look amazing!

I agree that this is the look. I fear shortening the pants will make them look too high, almost no matter how small the hem. Wide legs are supposed to almost touch the floor, and when the foot is visible, they look too short. One simply has to decide whether they like shoe-eating pants. The only alternative in my mind would be to narrow them, but that would completely change the style of the pants.

I have poison eye for the shoe-eating pants look. However, my personal preferences aside, it's not a faux pas. I don't really think there is a solution besides narrowing the pants leg. I would not shorten as then you'd have high water wide leg pants, which are much, much worse. The length is correct, this is just the style and you have to decide whether you like it or not.
What Ceit said... However, if you were to have them hemmed, you can get them hemmed at an angle, so the front of the hem is slightly higher than the back. That way the back of the hem still hits just above the floor for PPL but the front of your shoe/foot will be slightly more visible.
