Exactly Louise! That's what I think! Not many young people shop in M&S in Hong Kong because of its "old-lady" vibe. I think it's a great store when it comes to quality (can't beat its bras for the price!), but yes, some stuff is way too classic for my taste. Be selective and you'll be good.

And Louise I saw your sandals you did get on your thread and I must say it looks really good on you! You really can pull it off!

thunalata: happy feet, happy me!

Good for you, Alexis! I'm an M&S footglove fan too as the often wider fitting suits me better and I've had a few successes finding similar shapes from them to ones Angie has recommended.

Alexis I'm so glad the sandals worked for you. I tried the same ones on in coral on Saturday but they were just a teensy bit too wide for me but you're right they look great in person. I love M&S footglove they do have a tendency to sometimes be a bit mature looking but I've found that if the outfit you wear them with is younger they loose the mature vibe x

Thanks ladies!

Well Angie I have to eat my words - I went to M&S again two days ago and see if there's really nothing I like - and I found this pair in pewter. And there's only one left in my size which is on the shelf! I think it kinda looks like Brulee by Clarks (according to pictures on the Internet). I consider myself lucky. Thanks Angie again! You really are the lifesaver when it comes to fashion.

Since I guess M&S is the only brand in HK that offers wide fit, you ladies' suggestions are very helpful to me if I need more choices! Thanks again!

ETA: the photos don't do the sandals justice. It looks better in person.

SAS sandals are *very* comfortable, hold up well and are really worth the price! Once you find a brand and style you like, I would suggest checking ebay- they are often less than 50% off retail and many sellers ship internationally...just be *sure* and check seller's feedback and their return policy! Good luck!

Amazon's shipping rates are reasonable, but you will get stuck with a duty payment dependent on your country (For Canada it's about 24%). I still order from Amazon when I'm pretty sure I know exactly what I want and often when I have tried on a similar shoe by that label in my city. Sometimes, the price difference is minimal but Amazon has a lot of promotions, including 25% off right now on many brands.

Amazon may be an option. It says $13.99 per shipment on top of $4.99 per item for shipping!!! Is the shipping cost worth it?

I apologize for running out of suggestions, Alexis. If you have wide feet in HK, you are after Euro brands like we have both mentioned. Unfortunately they cost money. Chances are very low that the local less expensive brands will work.

This is exactly the same problem my sis in law ran into when they lived in Singapore (they lived there for 7 years). She had to purchase Euro brands - which were more expensive, and shop up a storm when she traveled.

Clarks are usually over $100 here in the US.

You could try shipping through Amazon? They might accept returns and exchanges.

Thanks Angie!

Yep for M&S, but sadly this season's styles are not my taste.

As for Clarks... They are over HK$1000, so they are out of my league.

One thing I always have reservation for international shipping is that I can never try on the shoes. and if they don't fit/are uncomfy/etc. it's almost impossible to return since the shipping cost is sooo high.

Angie am I hopeless?

Welcome Alexis, and so say hello to HK for me!

Have you tried M&S? Get to a British Clarks store. There are a few in HK.

You might need to have sandals shipped from the US or the UK. Dansko sandals work well for wider feet, as does a Naturalizer and Munro is wide.

I have never bought "real" fashion sandals before despite living in a hot and humid Asian city, so now I'm starting my sandals collection from scratch on a college student budget. I hope to strike the balance between comfort and style, so I plan to splurge on a pair of flat sandals under $100 or two this summer.

Unfortunately it can be sooo difficult when you have major fit issues. I have large calves and wide feet, so sandals styles that climb all the way to your ankles/calves are not for me. And few Asians have such wide feet like mine, so when I shop for closed-toe shoes I usually just size up and then add inserts to make up for the extra length. But with sandals this is impossible.

I went to a department store (Sogo in Causeway Bay) today. DKNY Klarissa caught my eye, but after I checked online I realized it's DOUBLE the price in the US (just under $100), so I don't think it's worth it.

Then I went to the Naturalizer counter, but again it's overpriced compared to the US. I guess it's because of the extra export cost? The style selection is very limited too. I asked to try on a pair, but the largest size is 39 (equivalent to US 8.5)! Gasp my feet could't even fit into the shoe. Other brands like Ecco, Rockport, Nine West etc. are even pricier. And I think that most styles offered by brands that feature comfort are, well, a bit dated. Not all, but most.

So after all the rambling, here are my questions:
1. What features/styles are the easiest to fit on wide feet? I understand that this is perhaps difficult to directly describe, so examples are welcomed.
2. Any recommendations of brands that make comfortable sandals without having to blow all the $$ on it?
3. I know Angie used to live in Hong Kong... so perhaps you can give me some pointers on where to do my sandal shopping?

I know I'm not very active on this forum, but in fact I'm a longtime lurker. But this time I'm desperate! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much!
