Louise, deeper armholes could be a way for manufacturers to get garment ratings down, which means using less fabric, which affects the cost of the garment.

It's terribly frustrating, I'm having to go up a size and its not to accommodate my hips!!!!! Angie is arm holes being cut away too much a sign of companies cutting corners and trying to scrimp on fabric?? X

I'm not sure why Louise is having this problem, but a broader shoulder and fuller upper arm often causes this type of fit challenge. Throw in a fuller bust and it's more of a challenge. You need a roomier all round fit, or a fit with stretch.

Furthermore, when an armhole is cut away too much, sleeves pull no matter what. That might be Louise's problem, actually.

That happens to me too. I think it's partly a function of shoulder width because if my shoulders weren't so wide my biceps also wouldn't be as far apart as they are and would sit closer to the body of the garment. But there has to be more to it - good question!

I'm glad others are suffering this too. I've tried on numerous coats in the last few weeks and have had this problem with every single one x

Something Malina said this morning in reply to your blog post caught my attention. She said that often armholes are designed such that they cut across her biceps.

Like Mo, I find that many jackets cut my arms in a similar way. Even in slimmer juniors' brands like Miss Sixty, it doesn't seem as though the shoulders are too tight, as I can move my arms forward with no pulling across the back. Instead, I get the tightness across the front, right at the tops of my biceps/where my arms meet my upper chest. It also happens in non-juniors' brands where you'd expect a more generous cut.

I assumed this was the result of very high-cut armholes or bustiness issues, but maybe not? Can you shed some light? I find it happening more frequently across brands and it's frustrating:(
