Late to the party, but glad you returned the boots. Onto the next fab pair.

Tammyw, models don't necessarily showcase correct fit. The models legs are swimming in the boots, and they should have fit a little more snug than that. They aren't slouchy, but pretty tailored.

The only thing that gives me pause is that in the Nordstrom images of this boot - they definitely aren't tight on her calf, and looking at it in these pictures, I can't quite imagine it being tight on any leg, because the style is quite a bit larger, no? Or am I just trying to justify it?

I think returning was wise...I think these are supposed to fit snugly at the calf. Gorgeous boots, but not worth if you have fit issues. Welcome to YLF!

Thank you for the advice, Laura. You're right, color contrast can be a good thing. It wasn't with these boots though. The Abigail in black is sleek and shiny and sexy. Orangey-gold doesn't seem sexy to me, at least not with glossy black leather.

I ended up taking them back. The lining color was not only incompatible with the look I was going for, but also the boot shaft was too big for my leg.

Tammyw, they probably wouldn't work for you. My calves are 14.5" at the widest part and the boots were big enough around that I could see a lot of the gold lining.

The shape of the sole worked well with my foot - I have wide feet and long toes, so pointy boots can be a problem. The Abigail has a rounder toe and gives plenty of room for the big toe. The boot is gorgeous, but didn't work for me.

I bet the color of the lining wouldn't be a problem with colors other than black, though, and that this boot would be great for folks with wider calves.

Cloves - I was looking for reviews on the Abigail boots and just saw this post. I was looking at the brown colored version. Can I ask how they fit around the calf? I have small calves (14" at the widest part), so I'm thinking these might be too big for me?

They look so beautiful and thinking about ordering from amazon with their 25% off!

I have a pair of nude ballet flats that are lined in a black-dyed leather. Annoying for the first few weeks until they stopped bleeding onto my feet when I wore them. I looked like I had some kind of foot disease. :/ The contrast lining might be used as a feature, though - pics might help but with this sort of small detail it's down to how much it would bug you, I think.

Thanks, Deborah, I appreciate it.

I read through the links and it looks like Angie would suggest that boots like these fit very close to the calf. They certainly aren't supposed to be slouchy.

It seems weird to me that Frye would line a black boot with orangish yellow leather. Is it weird? I'd think that a black or a silvery gray would suit this boot better.

Hi Cloves and Buttered Rum Candy, welcome! Lovely boots. I'm sure Angie will chime in later, but here are a few posts on boot fit from her archives so get you started.

I need advice about tall boots in general and one pair in particular.

In general: how closely should riding boots fit at the calf? Are riding boots supposed to have a small bit of gap or is that a sign of a bad fit?

I ask because of my specific question, which is:

I just bought a pair of Frye Abigail riding boots which are a gorgeous shiny black on the outside but that have an orangey-yellow lining. Because the boots have a small bit of gap at the calf, the lining is visible and, to my eye, looks a bit off.

I've been considering a couple of ways to deal with it, one of which is just to leave it alone. Frye makes beautiful boots and they made the Abigail that way, so it must be OK -- is the line of thought.

I've also considered taking them somewhere to get the top inside of the boot re-dyed black. And have also thought of just returning them, which I can still do, since they haven't gone outside yet.

I suppose this is a hard question to answer without seeing what they look like on me. Unfortunately, I am not able to put up a picture at the moment, but would be happy to do so if that'd be helpful.

I would really appreciate your advice.

Here's a link. The lining has a similar color to the zappos's star system.
 http://www.zappos.com/frye-abi.....lished-veg
