Placed my order for the oxfords! They will come next week and I will report about the fit, comfort and quality. I don't keep my hopes high as I am sure they will be too narrow but at least I will get them out of my system, right? :-)

Claire, these oxfords are made in Italy (based on the online description).

Here's some interesting info about J. Crew shoes that I ran across last night. I'm not sure all of their shoes are made in Italy, but some of them certainly are.
https://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navi.....-italy.jsp

Thank you all for chiming in.
K, you are giving me hope that they may work for me. If quality s good I guess I have to order to assess the comfort level myself - and get them out of my head in any case.
Angie, thank you. The site says "online only" so it looks like they are not available in stores.
Marianna, those are pretty oxfords but they look too sporty for my style. I much prefer wingtip styling of JCrew. I hope they work for you!
unfrumped, great idea about keeping the insole in your purse!
Karie, of course it is helpful - thank you!
Parsley, if some styles were too wide for you there is hope for me then :-)
I think I will order them tomorrow - wish me luck!

The few I tried in-store did not have enough cushioning. I think an insole could be a fix option with certain styles and with sizing to fit. So that seems to track with what others have experienced.

I'm thinking of adding a pair of thin insoles to my "shopping purse" kit because this comes up frequently. Is it the whole shoe, or just the bottom isn't cushy enough, but the upper is a good fit and pliable? Trying to tell if it's a permanently hard shoe or modifiable.

I've bought many pairs of JCrew shoes and boots. As Angie said, the quality is always stunning. The fit is generally good for my feet, which are high volume (high five!). My foot is wide, but just on the edge where I can buy normal width and be okay in many shoes. JCrew shoes stretch beautifully because the quality of the leather is phenomenal. Like Angie said, though, high quality doesn't necessarily mean comfy, especially for the first wear. However, definitely always worth a try!

FWIW, I have three pairs of JCrew boots (a flat riding boot, a kitten heel pointy toe and a blach high heel pointy toe) that have been absolute workhorses for over ten years. I'm tallying it up, and I probably have eight pairs of JCrew shoes, boots and sandals from over the years. One of my newer purchases--my leopard patent wedge heels from last year--have been worn endlessly and they still look like new. The took a few careful wears with bare feet to break in to true comfort. If I'd worn nylons, they probably would have been comfortable from day 1.

As my daughter said, I've had pretty good luck with J Crew shoes. Actually that could be bad news for you, because my feet sound like the opposite of yours! On the other hand, I've had to send some back because they're too wide, so I think it depends on the style. They seem to run a tiny bit smaller than most brands. The quality has been excellent across the board.

The quality of J.Crew footwear is stunning - but the comfort factor is all over the place. Some shoes are very comfy - like their suede styles - while others are hard and nasty.

I wish I could be more helpful, Sveta. If I see these pretty oxfords in stores I could try them on for you.

I love J. Crew, but like most stores, some of their items are made better than others, some are worth the price and some are not. Their blazers and pencil skirts - good quality and I would say worth the price, jeans - maybe, shoes - not so much. The quality and workmanship is OK, but IMHO not always worth the price tag. I haven't seen these in person, but from the shoes I have seen and tried on, the fit seems to be where it should be.

These are cute shoes, though - I've been looking for a similar pair for the spring/summer season.

I know I'm not much help, maybe someone who has seen them will chime in.
