It is a tricky stage - I do remember feeling that way too.

There are some great casual easy dresses and also some midi skirts finally available. I wore a lot of midi skirts with young kids - great with slides or sneakers.

Or shorter shorts with a longer tunic top can look good as well - sometimes a shorter short is more flattering than a longer pair:)

Hi Antonia, I'm also another Aussie. Fun comfortable dresses are my go-to when the weather gets hot, in finds is one that is cotton and is a loose flowing design. I wear playsuits as an alternative to shorts - I wore this orange playsuit a lot last summer as it is cool and comfortable, because I am not as tall as the model, it is a bit longer on me.

With two young children to run after I am sure you have your hands full, so don't be too hard on yourself, you can still have fun with fashion.

I think your figure may be similar to mine. Things that seem to work for me:
Tops with some kind of vertical line or v-neck. Like a button up shirt left just a bit open. or a top with a split neck. Sometimes I’ll tie the ends of a button up shirt hem for fun. Of course the hard part is getting the open-ness at the neck without showing more chest than you want. I have to try on a LOT of tops. also at 5’3” I’m a petite on top and regular in bottoms so that’s helpful to get the top proportions right.

I’m not a big fan of capris especially if you carry more weight up top it can be nice to show a little leg. I prefer either shorter shorts with a wider leg if it’s going to be a v hot day or Bermuda shorts (about 10-11” inseam)
You can have fun with prints - gingham and camo and floral. Enjoy those kids!

Hi, AntoniaJ, and welcome.

Are breezy dresses an option? Like a shift with a V-neck. Or pull on breezy joggers with a V-neck tee? I like the capris and flowing top idea too.

And if you haven’t been within the last year, have a professional bra fitting to make sure you’re in the right bra size and in the best bra.

I agree with ecteacher. Capries or a casual skirt rather than shorts is a good way to start.

Hello from Queensland, AntoniaJ. How do you feel about capris rather than shorts? You could pair these with your favourite tunic style or crossover top. I've added a photo to illustrate what I mean.

Best wishes

Denise

I'm struggling through an age change for my shape now. I've got two kids 5yrs & 3yrs so I'm past that lose the baby weight and now just have to get comfortable with the extra padding that has become my waist line.
I'm very large busted at 34G, I'm small at 5ft 4inches and have a rectangular figure and to top it off I live in Australia where everyone flaunts their fab toned bikini bodies for 9 months of the year!
My ask is how can I dress for summer, that's practical to be chasing around after kids but doesn't make me look like my own mum nor like i'm trying to be a 19yr old again?
