Nice info from Sarah and Tara!

Lisa, you can wear white pearls for sure. And a white watch too if you like. (Or gold). Does that make sense?

Lisa - I have similar coloring to you (depending on which hair color I use any given month, LOL) Right now I've gone a bit redder and darker. I agree it can be tricky to get the shoe thing right with this type of hair color. I agree with Angie that richer reddish browns and cognacs are more interesting than mid-range browns. I wear a lot of black shoes, because I like to elongate my legs, and don't want a lot of contrast with my (usually dark) pants.

In general, I do feel better in shoes that are dark, as opposed to lighter colors. In the warm weather, I like bronze, which for me is basically a metallic version of brown. I love the look of cream shoes, but for me they're tricky. I feel I can wear a white or off-white shoe if I have white somewhere up top in my outfit - for instance a camisole or shirt.

For accessories though, I like to work with my eye color more than my hair color. I have hazel eyes, so I like purples/wines to bring out the green, or warm gold/bronze to bring out the gold.

Also - the concept of "contrast" has really helped me in thinking about how to wear colors. Imogen did some really interesting posts about this:

http://www.insideoutstyleblog......trast.html
http://www.insideoutstyleblog......trast.html
http://www.insideoutstyleblog......trast.html

Hope all of this doesn't confuse you more!

Thanks everyone for your replys! :)

So, does this mean, Angie, that I should carry that cognac theme out to my watch & pearls also? Or could I look just as fab with the fresher white shoes, pearls, watch etc.

I know which colors I look best in otherwise; such as mid tones of soft tourquoise, apple green, salmon/orange etc. But it would be nice to have a neutral to go to for my watch, shoes, bag, pearls etc.

I think it really depends on skin tone. I'm a natural brunette and wear lots of cream and have a white watch too. I think they look great on me, but it's my skin more than my hair that determines shades I can wear.
I got so confused with the color seasons that were big awhile ago - I was "diagnosed" as an autumn and winter - twice on both. So instead I got a makeup book from the library that had a solid sheet of bright pink and a solid sheet of a coral orange to determine if I looked best in cool or warm shades. Even with that, I've noticed I can cross over a bit.
Cream is a tricky color for a lot of people. Perhaps you could try on a crisp white top and a cream top, take pictures and compare side by side?
Also, do people compliment you on colors you wear?
Pictures have become so helpful for me because many times I see things differently than I do in real life in front of the mirror.

Umm, this is interesting. I've also been admiring Angie's white watch and cream shoes. So, would these colors maybe not work so well on with my brunette coloring? Is is boring brown for me??!

Well hello Lisa from Seattle! Welcome to the forum and thanks for the pic!

Mac, I totally believe that book-ending your footwear and shoe colour works.

Lisa, try richer red-browns and cognacs instead of boring brown.

the InsideOutStyle blog suggests that people try shoes that are in the same general colour range as their hair. I'd never, ever heard of this before, but apparently many others have and like it since it treats hair almost like an accessory. What's your opinion of that, please, Angie?

Okay Angie, here's a pic. I'm 45 years young, live in Seattle, and have been following you since this past Fall. For the 1st time in my life, I am LOVING to shop and wear fashion, thanks to what I've learned from your site!

Hi Angie,
I notice you use some colors in accessories that complement/highlight your blonde hair such as cream shoes, handbags, skirts, pearls, watch etc. What color items might you suggest for a medium/light reddish brown haired gal like myself? It just seems boring to bookend myself in brown:(

What do you suggest to your clients?

Sincerely, Lisa
