Not sure if you're trying to do a top as just a top (sweater, etd) or the vest-poncho thing over a top, and which is black, or solid black, but...
Scarves are a good go-to for blending colors. That can be too much with a poncho or vest, though.

Also I use necklaces (so would work with a simple top in black, over taupey bottoms.) There are metals than sort of look taupey and then there are faux stones and such.

And, the reverse. I wear a lot of black bottoms so want to have a different top and sometimes I veer into taupey tops, and then will add black in necklace or scarf.
Or, though I'm supposed to be keeping to a limited and cool color palette, occasionally I'll fall for pants in a warm color , such as camel or mocha brown or something, that fit well, so I'll need to tie them in with the top, and black is one of those colors that you can wear with warm- or cool- neutral bottoms, but I'll want an echoing color.

Em, how about a black sweater vest over the black top? Or stick with the brown.

I love the neutral cords & taupe-y ankle boots featured in this post. If I wanted to wear them with a black (or cooler toned) top, how should I finish off the outfit to tie warm-ish booties into the ensemble? FWIW, my hair is mahogany brown, but colorwise, I am a medium-contrast Winter.
