I invested in a Burberry trench 10 years ago and it is still in good condition. Whilst an expensive purchase, it was well worth it for the classic styling and beautiful quality. I hope you treat yourself!

Your new Burberry trench will probably have the right amount of belt loops but if not and if their placement is not good for you, just have a tailor take a bit off the belt and add a couple loops in a better place to prevent the belt rising up. Couple toward the front center should do the job.

Wow, a Burberry trench would be awesome. I like the shape of the MJ coat and think it's a keeper.

Oh and I always find I may be in different situations, such as, I really like this item and want to keep/work it into updated wardrobe, vs. I'm not feeling fab in this and wonder what might work better. I don't think we have to toss things just due to the blowing of the fashion winds, but it can inform decisions. So for example, if an item an example of retro fabness (I'm not a good judge of that ) and modern retro is a style goal, then that would be a goal to create things around it. If something is classic or even timeless and one is wondering, maybe a bit jaded, then the item maybe just needs a refreshed support act.
I am thinking more of these approaches when something really fits well, good color, fabric I like because hey, actually that can be harder to find than I think and those items may be keepers that need a refresher.
Usually if I'm not wearing something much and wonder why, I can give it the eagle-eye once over and see that there is something "off" about the fit now, maybe very subtle, and it doesn't feel fab, or the fabrication feels too casual or too flimsy.

Trench is sorted.
The brown coat collar is what I call a Johnny collar, though that's pretty generic for small collars.
I find them very difficult to wear in a modern way on coats and jackets because they are ubiquitous in what I think of as "older set" lines of knit coats and jackets, even though this one is MJ, and find most other collars preferable, so for high-neck I prefer stand or funnel or even Mandarin.
So, that plus corduroy I would likely pass on unless you just love it and it fits in with your aesthetic. I do have to watch poison eye there so take it with a grain of salt.
That swing sort of style does look great on some people and for some outfits, though I'm not sure it complements slim pants or jeans--so it might depend on not just the coat, but does it create some nice outfits for you due to its shape. For a boxy or roomy short coat style, I think you might look fab in some more updated coats, though.

I like the Marc Jacobs coat - and remember the year when that was done. It's a different look, that's for sure, but if you go for his whimsical look, and like a Peter Pan collar, then go for it! Trench is kind of leaving me cold for some reason - I think it's a bit snug up top perhaps? I know a trench needs to be carefully fitted, I prefer them with a bit of room and not so buttoned up (literally, and metaphorically - lol).

The trench looks like it doesn't fit right...could you layer it over anything? I'd replace it. I like the other one, if it's warm and cozy I'd keep it. I think I'd like a scarf under the collar or in the neckline.

Thanks Suz - I'm not really a retro person - I just like the color, the brand and it is different. I bought at consignment store in NYC so maybe it is more East Coast vibe.

The trench is in the donation box.

I like the first one on you a lot. The fit is good, and it's a cute style. To me the style looks casual and would be great for wearing with jeans and boots. I agree with Suz that you could use a new trench coat with a better fit. You can certainly wear the belted style; the coat just needs a little more ease.

The trench looks as if the fit is a bit off -- I would get a new one if it is a style you like to wear.

The other coat seems to fit well. The colour suits you and it is very retro -- is that part of your style persona?

To me, the fabric (corduroy, which seems casual) and the style (retro, a bit dressy) are almost at odds. How do you feel about that combination?

Here are two coats that I need advise on whether to keep.

#1 is a corduroy, which I wear during the winter but just a few times. It is a Marc by Marc Jacobs and I've never been sure about the Peter Pan collar..

#2 is a faithful trench coat. I pretty much where it belted but not sure about the look. Maybe it's not the best size ? I have gained a few pounds . The belt also has a tendency to rise.

Thanks for your advise
