TS - I just wanted to update and let you know I tried the GAP Really Skinny pants as 'cigarette pants' today (with loafers, and with sandals) and you know what? It worked! Even though I'd previously thought of my GAP Really Skinny pants as only something I would tuck into tall boots in winter (they look great tucked into flat boots, btw), they *do* work as cigarette pants after all, and surprisingly, still have enough of that tiny bit of scrunch at the bottom. Just for the record, I'm 5' 6" tall, and the Really Skinny pants I have are 10R (regular length). I get what looks like the perfect amount of scrunch with flat shoes/boots and very low heels. Because they are so slim-cut, even if the inseam length is on the longer side, it'll still work. Does that make sense?

I wasn't expecting that - last fall, these were strictly for wearing with slightly longer tops and tucked into tall boots.

Well, voila! Colour me surprised - they *are* good cigarette pants after all. Definitely worth a try - with the Really Skinnies from GAP, you might get fab pants that work for tucking into boots through winter, but that also do double-duty as 'cigarette pants'.

Just thought I'd throw in that my original opinion of these pants has changed. They're skinnies, but they are *also* great cigarette pants too.

The Gap Real (or Really?) Straights are cigarette pants, at least on me. Like the Real Skinnies, they attract lint. Even the Petites are pretty long and scrunch on me. I've only washed them once and line dried since they look like they will shrink up as much as the Skinnies. They have a lot of reviews. . .complaining about the lint issue among other things. Luckily, I have no cats, but occasionally a white tissue ends up in the wash.

A little late here, but it just so happens I tried on a pair of AG cigarette jeans today-called "Stilt." $$$, but I really liked the way they looked on me. BTW, I'm 5'1" body type between an hourglass & an "8" w/a little bit of a tummy.

"Lint like the devil" - yikes, probably not good with two lighter haired cats!

I have the Gap Really Skinnies and like them a lot. I got them in regular length and hemmed to where I wanted them - a bit of scrunch. The only issue with them is that they attract lint like the devil!

I am just about as pedantic as Angie on pants lengths and I wear my slim black trousers, the GAP Really Skinnies, JUST below the ankle (though of course, I quite like the length Angie showed hers at too). Mainly because I have black skinny jeans with lots of scrunch, so these are a slightly alternative and vaguely retro silhouette and vibe. It's a certainly trickier length.

Oh! Thanks, Shannon. Like I said, when I wear a classic item with the trends, my outfit feels best :)

I'd try BR too. The first pair is from the Gap (you are right, Ceit), and the second pair is from BR - but not the Martins. I passed those on three years ago. These are the update that I got last year - not the Martins but something else and I couldn't be happier with them.

I tried on loads of black cigarette pants - and the Gap and BR worked out best. My wallet enjoyed them too. Perfect for today's outfit formula. And a wardrobe essential for my style.

Ladies in search of cigarette pants, try Banana Republic's Martin fit skinny: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....=760825002 (I stopped buying the petite version so that I could get some scrunch.)

Not sure if that's what's shown in the pictures, but I know those Martins were an Angie favorite for a while.

VC - I did not get the python boots from NAS but I have some Docs that would work with this.

I have now added to my fall/winter list: black cigarette pants (or some other black pants with tapered ankles and scrunch) and a crisp white shirt.

Thanks for asking this question TS - I was wondering too! Truth be told, I'm pleased with what Angie has said - that she likes them longer, and "scrunch-able". One of my biggest frustrations and challenges is pairing the right footwear with the right pants/bottoms. Cropped ankle-ish pants are a little bit too tricky for me to get just right. Plus, Angie's cigarette pants are going to be a lot more wear-able through more seasons.

Now I want to know where to get some of these "cigarette" pants! I do have the GAP Really Skinny, and those are nice for tucking into boots in the winter, but I wouldn't mind some slim, non-denim pants that aren't "skinnies" exactly.

TS - did you get the Sam Edelman boot during the NAS? In python/snake perhaps? I wonder if those would work in a similar fashion to Angie's animal print bootie/black cigarette pants, fresh white shirt with pearls look?

Thanks Angie. And yes, I know you and lengths (lol)!

BTW - all three of these outfits are stunning on you (as usual) but that third one is making me gasp a little - love the trousers with the white shirt and the animal print footwear. Thinking I need to get a pair of trousers like this to wear with my animal print Doc Danielles. If I were to get regular length rather than petite, I could then hem to the proper scrunched length. Hmmm....

I like my own cigarette pants longer.

I like scrunch. And when they are cropped, I like them shorter. I *might* wear regular length cigarette pants that cover the ankle sans scrunch too - but that remains to be seen. You know me and lengths :).

Here are mine. Two pairs of different pants.

What's the proper length for a pair of cigarette pants? For example, this pair is lovely and I like the length of them with the bootie but I'm not sure this is considered PPL? Does the hem length vary on a shorter person like myself?
