Another who loves tees under a blazer with jeans. It might be that you are wearing a top under the blazer that does not feel comfortable. The something sleeveless. If blazers seem too expensive and precious, look at thrift shops. If a blazer seems too dressy or heavy, try a chore jacket or a k it or fabric moto jacket. Right now one of my favorite looks is a leather blazer over a graphic or striped tee.

So fun, I'm with lisap here, this is the only way I wear my blazers- and I don't exactly know what the secret is, JDMOT useeng a tee or a casual blouse-patterned cigarette pants or ankle showing white jeans(don't wear blue) and mostly tube or denim skirts to my blazers). And, perhaps you can use a not so dressy and structured blazer-rather a sportier/jersey one?

I love blazers with jeans. I don't have a winter blazer in my wardrobe right now but if I were to buy one I would go with a Smythe or Veronica Beard. Kate Middleton wears Smythe Blazers with jeans.

Would love to see your blazer and maybe some inspiration pics of the look you're going for. It might just be that your eye needs time to adjust to the new look, and a bit of supportive feedback here might help you see your look through more objective eyes.

Ok. I think you need to give us an idea of what you have tried on and what you didn’t like about them. We’re kind of shooting in the dark here.

How about a knit blazer — they have some stretch and are generally more comfortable and more casual than the usual blazer one might wear to an office job.

Add me to the list of those who LOVE a blazer with jeans outfit. When the weather is right I prefer a blazer to a coat as outwear.

I'm petite as well and yes, finding blazers that fit properly is a challenge. Banana Republic and J Crew have been my go to for both blazers and coats for years. Aritzia has a blazer called the Babaton Power Short Blazer (formerly Macauley Blazer) that's great on me and it has a more casual vibe to wear with jeans. It's not a structured blazer so not office looking. I keep an eye on those for new colours. I've had some success at Club Monaco as well as their things sometimes run small and narrower through the shoulder. It usually has to be a jacket without buttons at the cuff so the sleeves can be shortened if needed but I've picked up a couple that fit right off the rack.

Anna; I, too, like the look of blazers but something stops me when I try them for myself. Part of it is that they generally have to be dry cleaned (too precious!) and they seem to be more classic or preppy than makes me feel comfortable. Fit is also an issue; I need Petite sizing with generously cut sleeves.

So the geranium colored blazer was recently delivered; tags still on. Today I am wearing the striped dress in Finds but in solid red over the neon turtleneck with matching tights and red clogs. No, I didn’t leave the house with this getup on. I got cold so I popped on the blazer; seems to work.

This blazer is soft, unlined, and knit so more like a swacket. If this makes me want to wear my blue jeans more (I usually reach for NON-blue jeans) and reach for this jacket, I will keep it. I also need to see how it works with a few other dresses since proportions can be tricky.

I’m with Synne and Rachy, it might be the texture of the material that puts you off. Smooth textures do look more corporate. More roughly textured fabrics, like boucle, look more casual. That said, blazers might not be right for you. I don’t feel right wearing necklaces, as much as I’d like to wear one, they feel off.

I’m gonna take a stab and say the weight of the blazer, if it’s wool or a gabardine-like material, is too light for the heaviness of the jeans. What works in a cotton or linen blazer doesn’t work in a suiting material.

Anna - I suspect its a combination of cut and color that may be throwing you off. I live in "the blazer of authority" as my kids named it, because that's comfortable for me, and I like the 3rd layer. I soften it with t-shirts, print tops, and scarves to still be more casual.

What do you frequently wear as a topper? If a cardigan, maybe a ponte blazer or a knitted one would be a simple swap? Possibly in a similar color to those you already wear? If a fitted jacket, maybe try a blazer with a tie waist, or one that is more of jewel collar, or fitted?

If you are worried about sizing, (and also about if you'll like it...) I'd agree with looking at Boden, or Talbots or Ann Taylor. All 3 do a range of blazers in colors and styles and frequent sales would mean you aren't breaking the bank.

Some ideas below...

If you can't find a blazer you like, can you identify what feels wrong about it? Maybe the look is just not for you. There are a lot of looks I appreciate on others but don't enjoy wearing myself. Sometimes our inner associations are so strong we just can't get over them.

I never think of blazers as corporate and never feel corporate when wearing one. Maybe that's because I've never had a true corporate job (although I did work in the legal field for a short time, so I'm familiar with the dress codes).

I wear blazers with jeans and boots/ booties pretty much every time I go out of the house (only a slight exaggeration).

I casualize with the the tricks that you and others have suggested -- rolling or scrunching sleeves, wearing with a graphic tee, throwing on a scarf, wearing jeans of different styles, varying the boots, varying the cut of the jacket. I have shorter jackets and longer ones. Plain and patterned. I don't consider this a dated look at all. It's one of my signature looks and I will never stop wearing it, although I might switch up the style of the jeans or the proportions of the jacket to move with the times.

The key, I think, is that I genuinely find blazers comfortable. (Assuming they fit, of course.) So I never feel unlike myself in them.

Lisa - when you’re shopping ban is over check out VB on sale. Final sale jackets run about $200 and often its combined w another 15% off. I don’t know about the Canadian exchange and availability. But these are the most flattering blazers I’ve ever had on. Nice details, you can’t appreciate the buttons. Like mosaic blue shell surrounded by crystal clear. Defined waists. Great fabric and contrast lining and of course Dickey compatible.

Anna - princess of blazers checking in. I personally think the most important thing with blazers is proportion and fit. I am also 5’3” but I’m a slim rectangle. With skinnies I prefer a long blazer which is fitted for waist definition. The Veronica Beard Matteo blazer or the Kennedy below are very sharp. With boot cuts a more cropped blazer has better proportions. I don’t wear tee shirts. In winter a simple cashmere crew neck in summer the JCrew Jackie shells. Always a great pair of booties and belt. But a crucial question to ask yourself is are you a blazer girl? I’m very formal. Blazers are, when sharply tailored, powerful, professional, commanding. If you want to drop that down ponte/knit blazers, sweater blazers, and some very tailored cardigans might be more comfortable. Agree w Lisa - blazers as a category will never be dated, although certain individual blazers and styles may date. I wear my blazers w blue, black, gray, waxed black denim jeans. Boyfriend blazers buttoned over leather leggings. I wear a blazer pretty much every day, work or play...just styled differently. Honestly, I’ll probably find a way to sleep in my blazers. I do agree w Janet - I’m currently crushing on Veronica Beard blazers and dickeys - although I buy them only on sale. But the big questions are - are you a blazer girl? If so, do you own the right blazer for the pants you are wearing them with? Below is the outfit I wore today to take my son suit shopping.

Well, if you only have one blazer and you don't even like it very much, I think that's the key to the solution! I suggest taking a look around at the stores and do a little try-on session with some blazers that do appeal to you. Wear jeans and a top you envision pairing with a blazer and see what you find.

@Anna may I suggest less structured blazer styles, like stretchy ponte, a knitted blazer or even a blazer cape? A solid coloured blazer (not tweed or pinstripe) may also help you to feel less formal, especially if you don't naturally gravitate towards a preppy or polished style when dressing casually. You could also go in the other direction with a velvet blazer paired with jeans.

I'm also a pear/ hourglass shape & find that I either need to go really short with my blazers (think cropped around the natural waist) or longer (past hip length). Anything that hits between the two lengths tends to look frumpy on me.

Could it be that the blazers are of the standard office smooth polyester fabric version? Lots of great styling ideas mentioned here already. In my opinion a textured blazer (tweed, (p)leather, wool) makes it much more interesting. More fashion, less office formal.

Anna, could it be that your not comfortable in jeans? i love jeans, i feel my most authentic in jeans. i love a blazer and jean outfit, and IMO when i wear them together they look intentional and not like i'm half way dressed. (Posted a couple of recent examples). on the other hand, i have a sister who would probably feel the same as you, mostly because she feels its "trying to hard", and to "fashiony".
would you be willing to post some pictures and let us help you?

Could it be the fit of your blazer? Fitted, short blazers look more corporate to my (very untrained) eye, unless paired with a very casual bottom like a cuffed straight jean, jogger, distressed jeans, etc. and casual shoe like a sandal or sneaker. I think the longer or more oversized/boy fit blazers LOOK more casual by default.

Also, this may sound crazy, but check your hair style, too. A 'do that is wavy, or edgier can add to a more casual-leaning look.

Preppy Pear, I typically wear straight-leg or skinny jeans, and I've tried every brand of blazer from J. Crew to H&M but it just screams 'office' no matter what I do. I love the structure of blazers, they seem to make everything else look neater and more put-together, but when I try on outfits modeled after what I see in pictures, they never seem to work. Could it be the cut? I'm 5'3, wear an XS and am slightly pear-shaped. Thanks so much!

Two YouTube bloggers do the casual blazer plus jeans look really well. One is Emma Hill, who is based in London. She is currently doing some major home renovation, and her 2020 videos are all about her home improvements. But do look at her Instagram and older videos. The second is Signe at Useless, who lives in Denmark. Signe is very into sustainability and is currently doing a low-buy year. Both are blonde, tall, and thin, but do not let that intimidate you. They are also both fans of secondhand shopping, and Emma in particular has some beautiful pre-loved items such as a black St. Laurent pea coat and a Loewe puzzle bag for instance. They are both dog lovers.

Funny, this is the only way I wear blazers. Now, I don't have a job that demands dress pants or skirt and jacket ....
But dated? I beg to disagree. Check out any recent Fashion Week photos (Stockholm, Paris , even New York) and there is a ton of excellent blazer styling. Cargos or joggers are another bottom option, instead of jeans. Try clogs and a blouse instead of boots and a t. And look at Iwanttobeher or thatsnotmyage for lots of other styling ideas .
