I was thinking along the same line as rachylou. They're not "def leppard in the 80s" distressed, which would be a bit much for anybody that isnt into full-on post-apocalyptic dystopianism like I am (and even then, at 46, I would probably only wear some def leppard jeans for yard work or something LOL)

I think they're fine and will be a great addition to a casual wardrobe.

They sound quite cool to me. Maybe not what you'd want to wear to the Ritz Carleton unless you were a rockstar, but appropriate everywhere lively!!

I bought a pair of Levi's high rise skinny jeans that are faded & distressed at the knees (holes), I'm 60 (yikes)...I love the look but am really wondering if they would be inappropriate, my hubby doesn't like them but doesn't tell me what I can & can not wear. I love to sew & wear current looks/fashion that I feel comfortable in. There is definitely a line I will not cross but love being fashionable...do I keep them or do I take them back...?? Would love feedback...thanks ;o}

My goodness -- I'm 52 and it never occurred to me that I was too old for distressed jeans. I wasn't interested in them and then I was, so now I have a pair and I wear them a lot.

Let's see, are there things I feel too old to wear? Sure. Tiny swimsuits. (Actually never wore those, ever anyway.) Anything very short or lowcut (again never wore this sort of "clubwear" type of clothing either.) Heels, because the older I get, the more problematic my feet become. Honestly, anything with a serious V or scoop -- not because they're too sexy, but because they expose skin that I am now more cautious about protecting from the sun.

I'm quickly heading to 52. I don't wear them myself, but my neighbor, who is 10 years older, maybe more does, and she looks great! I say do whatever you want.

Heck yes. I'm 52, and I do. I don't consider myself "too old" for anything. It just depends on the look and vibe I want to project.

At first, I didn't like the idea (not because of age, just that I didn't see the point). But I've found they juxtapose well to "dress down" dressier items, and I'd wear them with casual things too if I felt like it. Depends on the context (and possibly regional expectations of dressiness level, which can vary).

I didn't see this thread the first time around.

No comment on age-appropriateness of anything, but for plus-size boyfriend-fit jeans, I've converted to actual menswear. It takes some shopping to find the right fit, but then it's no problem to find dark wash.

Can't comment on Old Navy distressed jeans, but as for distressed jeans, I think it's fine to be 50 plus and wearing them. I noticed this thread is 1+ year old. I've lately not been feeling distressed denim as much as I used to. More into clean washes right now. And giving boyfriends a break right now and back to skinnies.

I have never worn them and if I started wearing them now, my family would make me go to a therapist. It just doesn't fit my style. That said, I don't think it's my place to tell anyone what's age appropriate. I think it comes down to one's personality and self-confidence. If you have to ask, then maybe there's enough doubt to keep you from pulling off the look. If you love the look, you shouldn't have to ask for permission to wear them.

A couple of months ago I was certain I'd never wear distressed jeans. Then I saw a poster here who looked great in them, and then when shopping for jeans and trying on a dozen pairs I ended up with distressed Rag & Bone that fit perfectly and were so comfortable I couldn't resist.

And I'm 20 years older than you. Now they are my best fallback jeans.

I wear them with longer tops, and there are places I wouldn't wear them (with people my own age who wouldn't "get" it) but I do wear them shopping, out for a casual meal, and so on. And no one has looked at me askance.

MizzouMom, I have a rectangular shape and tend to be in-between two sizes. The ON distressed BF jeans didn't fit me very well (I do fit nicely into their full length Diva's). I like the fit of Joe Fresh and Gap much better.

I think very slightly distressed jeans would not raise any eyebrows at all. I would be a little more surprised to see a woman in her 50s+ wearing jeans with big holes in them, but I wouldn't think she was out of bounds.

I have a pair of white Old Navy boyfriend jeans that have a couple of spots of distressing on them. I would prefer they didn't have the distressing, but I love the fit on me, and they're comfy (and cheap). (I'm 46.)

I am over fifty and would never wear a distressed jean. I am tall and slender but I have never understood the point of buying ragged looking clothes. And if the distressing is somewhere on your body to which you do not want to call attention, a nice tailored jean might be a better choice.

If you have the personality for it, by all means do it! Life's too short not to wear what you love.

I think with anything related to age appropriateness, it largely depends on one's personality. If there's any uncertainty or doubt, it's probably best to forego whatever it is you want to wear.

I say that because I'm over 50 and have never worn distressed jeans. If I decided now to start wearing them, I'm sure my friends and family would scratch their heads and wonder what came over and possessed me to do such a thing. Seriously, with color or style or anything else, personality trumps all rules.

I'm in your age group and have a pair of mildly distressed boyfriend jeans (a double whammy of young-sounding trends!) and I really like how they work with more structured tops and heeled booties. I think it's a matter of balancing the effect rather than diving into the grunge, and it sounds like that is just what you are doing. I'm in favor!

It sounds like they are not too distressed and that you can style them to minimize the distressed look. How do you feel in them?

I'm almost there myself (48) and have a pair of distressed jeans -- holes in the knees. I style them pretty carefully so I don't look too trend-obsessed, and it sounds like you are doing the same. Denise (Cocolion) is also in our age group and an absolute master of incorporating all kinds of jeans in her looks, so do check out her posts for styling ideas.

So I say go for it!

These sound totally fine the way you are suggesting you'll style them. Several of us here wear distressed jeans and are over 50. I wouldn't wear them to a formal setting, obviously. But for casual wear, for sure.
