Hi Banoffi - I am new to youlookfab, and so I have to wait 3 days to see the pictures. Since I believe that you're an active member, would you mind sending me the pics on this posting (esp. Pics #8, 9, 10, 11 and 12)? It's because I plan to buy a Burberry Newforest trench, but don't have an idea how it looks (not too much info online). If you don't mind, I would give you my email and it would be great if you could send those pics to me. Many thanks!

I may, however, be biased as I just bought my first Burberry trench last month and it is black. ;)

Caro Im now starting to lean towards the roomier Kensington one because even though it feels baggy it seems to create more of an hourglass. The slimfit makes me look more like a rectangle. I dunno...got the K word feom Angoe on all of them though. Perhaps I'm just not used to coats. I'm used to skinny jeans & fitted blazers etc.

Elle - I understand & think that the B should be a 10 or 11 before you even consider buying it. Personally I wouldn't want to buy one that felt almost too fitted, can you have them tailor it so it's perfect for light layers?

Caro I feel the black one in honey (not pictured) looks too baggy. It doesn't seem that way in black. I intend to buy honey colour. The last one, Newforest, is fitted nicely in a size 4 but I can't gain much weight. I usually buy for the size I am now but this is a huge investment for me.

I can't keeo track of the names, but I like the first two based on pics. Since you want length, my vote goes to the dark one. You're in cali, I don't think you need to fit a blazer under.

Well, I've come back to make a judgement, and I find I just cannot. You can see the quality in the coats even in these photos. What a wonderful purchase, but obviously you will want to make it carefully. I tend to feel as Joy does about the first one, but I agree it is too short for dresses, and I while I really like the honey colour on you I see Mia's point about black as well.

Basically I am no help at all, and I hope Angie weighs in!

I have a "Marleybone" which I have had for a few seasons and it is one of my most treasured wardrobe items. It a trench is "your thing" you will not regret it.

I shopped at the Burberry store here in my city and am happy to say the staff was amazing in helping me choose the one that not only fit me but suited my body type. The cuts are all slightly different so keep trying until you get one that feels right. I have to say that I also brought a stylist friend with me to choose between the size 6 and 4 at the end of the process. I can fit light layers under mine but not a blazer unless it is very fitted.

I am liking the dark one on you but I may be biased because mine is black. It suits my skin tone and I find it totally flexible as it works over casual right up to evening looks when the tan might not. Mine is also a shorter length which I also find more versatile. I wear over a dress and let the hem show but works better for me with the casual stuff.

Interested to see what you choose.

Joy I thought about what you said with oversized trends & thought that maybe the 4 Kensington would give me shoulders that fit with a bigger body. But then I thought tailored is always in but oversized comes & goes.

Lucky you to get a Burberry trench. I like the Queensland best on you but understand about the length. In general, I like the princess seams, honey color and closer together buttons. If fashion is moving toward oversized again, you may want to go with a size 6 for longevity

I had this same problem with a Cole Haan trench I really wanted. Small was too tight in the shoulders with layers, but Medium was still big. I had to return them both. I would say if you can fit a dress, sweater, and blazer, and you can still move, you are golden!

I got some birthday money & returned some new with tags items I didn't love & sold some things I don't wear & decided with my girl math that the all that money came from nowhere, outside of normal budget, so I justified a Burberry trench.

I have 3 different Burberry trench coats in these pics. I'm not sure on fit. I'm not happy with roomier ones on me but the smaller size allows less layers. Now I'm wondering if I need to allow for many or bulky layers. I have a wool coat that allows all those layers & is warmer just by being a thick wool. Wouldn't I just wear that when it is cold? I guess for traveling though, it's easier to take a light coat with many layers.

Pics 1, 2 & 3 - Sz 6 Queenshouse. Set in sleeves more tailored with princess seems. Buttons close together. Due to the tailored fit it looks great without layers. Too short for dresses I think at 35", I do prefer longer, but it shows a size 6 on me. This fits tee shirt, cashmere sweater & thick wool felt blazer that is slightly roomy on me since weight loss. I think it bunches too much when cinched & is slightly too big at shoulders. Sleeves look wider than photos of celebs & Burberry models on the web.

Pics 4 & 5 - Size 4 Kensington without layers. This is black & looks better than honey in pics as it is harder to see bagginess so maybe I need to get more pics of it in honey. I will be buying honey I think. Set in sleeves. Longer length at 37". Buttons wider apart. Not as tailored so roomier therefore not needing a size 6 for layers. Looks too baggy in body. Sleeves look too wide.

Pics 6 & 7 - Kensington layered with a dress, light cashmere sweater & light blazer.

Pics 8, 9 & 10 - Size 4 Newforest without layers. Back looks snug but it is partly due to me twisting to take pic & I can't remember really if the back shot was with or without layers. This is tailored with princess seams & buttons closer together. Longer length at 37". Raglan sleeves allow a little more room for layering under but body still very fitted. Shoulders aren't as sharp as set in Queenshouse sleeve but the length is better than that one. Looks great with just a dress under it, except for wideness of sleeves. Would it fit if I gained weight? Should I shop for size I am now.

Pics 11 & 12 - Size 4 Newforest with dress, sweater & blazer. Blazer has stiff peplum sticking out too. Fits very snug but allows all the movement of arms etc. Would be too tight with a sweater & thicker blazer or leather jacket perhaps. Wouldn't fit layers if I gained weight, though I wont be buttoning it all the way to neck most of the time.

The size 6 Queenshouse & the Size 4 Kensington don't look as fitted as your trench coats do Angie so I'm leaning towards the sz 4 Newforest. I'm not sure if that is a foolish choice for weight gain or layers.
