Yep, no cap sleeves or gathered/puffy sleeves or pirate sleeves or embellished sleeves or shoulder pads (although I do have a strong-shouldered blazer where the shoulders kind of point UP). Welcome to trianglehood!

I agree about cap sleeves. I avoid them like the plague. I don't mind my shoulders, but I don't want to look like a tiny football player. I've decided to stick with sleeveless or at least elbow length sleeves on things. Anything that hits me mid-upper-arm makes me feel very top heavy.

About waist issues... you might consider buying jackets that fit your shoulders and then having them tailored to fit your waist. Knit blazers can be easier to fit since they have some stretch to them.
Hello, ladies!

I can suggest you http://www.stylewhile.com. It is an online clothing store where you can choose from different body types and pick the one which suits you the best. Basically, you can try on clothes and see what works and what doesn't. I am attaching the image to give you a little insight about how it works:) I hope someone will find this website helpful!:)
Thanks for your welcomes and responses everyone! Most of my clothes problems are with suit jackets (petite sizes are limited, and if I get one that fits in the shoulders, it just hangs around the waist) and pants (baggy in the butt!). I try to avoid anything resembling a cap sleeve on summer tops as they make my arms look enormous. ;)

Welcome to the IT club. :) I look pretty similar to that except you have more of a defined waist than I do and I'm 5'1". Several babies can do that to a body. ;)
Yup, that image looks pretty familiar, except that I'm about 4" taller with at least a couple of those inches residing between my bust and my waist (such as it is) which make me long waisted. Belted tops usually fit around my ribs instead of near my waist.
I actually like my broader shoulders so I don't tend to follow the guidelines for the IT shape as much as for the racy rectangle.
I think you are right, your figure does look like IT. You have beautiful shoulders. And welcome!

Hey, you look like me! And I'm an IT and 5'1". I can't tell if I'm short waisted as I'm fairly rectangular through the middle and also not a lot of booty. Welcome! There are several others here with this body type.

Hi,

I am new to your blog, and am loving it!

I am trying to identify my body type. I have broad shoulders, no real defined waist and a flat bottom. I think I'm an inverted triangle (??), but I am also short (5'2") and am very short-waisted. I've posted a photo if that helps. Thanks!

http://tinyurl.com/bmojwdu
