Shadow...Looking forward to your photo. There are a few other Bostonians on this board. Tanya and Shiny are two of them, I'm from central MA, but born and raised so quite familiar with Boston and all it has to offer!

You can upload your photo on photobucket.com if you wish. You can set up your account to be password protected if you wish--just share you password with us so we can view photos as well.

I have a broad back and shoulders too. Be grateful for your height. It really sounds like you have a negative body image and I can assure you that if you open your mind and allow the YLF members to help you out--we will change your opinion of yourself in no time flat!

I shall send a photograph, but it may have to wait until morning (it is currently 1:30 AM in Boston, and I need to nap.) Look for it around three London time (it shall be ten here.)

PS-How do I post this picture?

Welcome Mary and thanks for the info. Ana has started you off really well. If you post a picture of yourself like the other gals have done, we'll be able to help you more effectively.

Wow, that's a lot of information. There are some things that we need to sort out first before we can really help you though. It's difficult to tell what your body type would be based on what you've told us. Would you be comfortable posting a picture of yourself (it could be from the neck down)? Then we could really nail down your body type and it would allow us to make suggestions and give you specific information on clothing that might work for you. I'd be willing to bet that your fit issues (and subsequent shopping frustration) stem from the fact that you're trying the wrong type of clothing for your body. Knowing your body type and switching to figure flattering clothing make a huge difference, I promise!

By the way, don't feel bad because you don't fit into Victoria's Secret bras--they're rubbish! Do you have a Nordstrom's near you? Their bra fitting service is fantastic. They have a wide variety of good quality bras, so you are sure to find a brand that will work for you. A good bra can make a world of difference.

P.S. The round face, muscular legs and broad shoulders (with some back fat) sound just like me!

Dear Angie,

I apologize for the length of this, but humor me. It is complex.

I am a 25 year old woman who truly dreads having to shop, at least in the sense of clothing and makeup. I can never seem to find anything in a store that seems to "work" on me because of the way I am built: I am 5 feet 9 inches tall, (175 cm) a B cup, size ten pants (12 UK) with pale skin, green-grey eyes, and dark wavy hair (175 cm).

Taken out of context these aren't a problem. However, I also have a very round face, muscular legs, and for reasons only known to God back fat on already broad back/shoulders (Weirdly fat on me is only here whereas my hips, limbs, and belly are fine.). -It is extremely hard to go shopping and find something that fits me well. Buying a dress or bra can be hell because Victoria's Secret doesn't make bras for small breasts and big backs nor do Banana Republic, Gap, Ann Taylor and others cut dresses for someone with my shape (the dress size inflates because of my back.) I hate buying shorts because I don't like my legs stared at and I haven't been to the beach in years: how does one hide legs like Serena Williams and a jiggly broad back simultaneously?!!

It has gotten to the point where my own 50 something 80's Sloane ranger clone mother is telling me to wear things "younger and hipper" (she doesn't realize I have all but given up and am trying NOT to be noticed) and I am at a loss as to what to do. Must I resign myself to prefacing my phrases with "fee, fie, fo, fum" for the next 50 years or are there any styles out there I can wear that are flattering and feminine? What kind of swimsuit should I get, and how/where do I find it? How do you overcome feeling like there would be a striking resemblance between Koko the gorilla in a cocktail dress and you in the same outfit? (Bear in mind that, crushingly, you have been called "Sir" by men at their first glimpse of you from behind.)

Sadly and unfably yours,

Mary
Boston, USA
