In a dark wash, well-fitting pair, you will look stylish and not at all "old lady trying to look young". I think so many times we prematurely age ourselves out of fear of "trying to look young". Angie has some wonderful posts on age-appropriate clothes and dressing for pear shapes. We still get to have fun with clothes, even if we're over 50!</p> <p>Maybe you just needed some new jeans. I recently visited my mother who is 76 (although looks much younger) and she rocked her dark jeans in a polished and smart casual way. I'd stick to dark wash denim and bootcuts make sure they are ppl and away you go. I gave away all but my black jeans a while ago, partly because of a change in shape and partly because I lost confidence in my ability to get away with them, now that I have pewter-coloured hair (short). I'm 54, 5'3", a pretty pear and fairly plump (62kg or about 138lb, mostly below the waist). I don't want to look like a scary old lady trying to look young. On the other hand, I kind of miss the convenience ... My denim jacket still looks OK, I think - tho' not worn with jeans. I'd be fine with "stick to black trousers" guidance. </p>
