Theresa,
Looks like we posted on nearly identical topics! My list is similar to yours except that I already have skinnies and boots and can't wear ballet flats. It is a good bit colder in my art of Aus, but still something like a pleather jacket with a scarf or turtleneck is enough without needing another coat

Hehe Theresa I am in the opposite situation to you - I have all flat boots, no heels. However I am drooling over 2 boot options and I really think I shouldn't get both: either a brown pair knee-high Frye Melissa riding boots or grey over the knee faux-suede boots. Truth be told I don't *need* either, but I love them both. Decisions decisions!!

Nice list Theresa - I'm starting to realise after reading more & more YLF posts about the holes I need to fill in my wardrobe and hence the more rubbish in my wardrobe that I need to get rid of. I've been haunting E-Bay alot lately to build up my wardrobe as I find it's good to get quality pieces that I usually couldnt afford to buy. Also you can buy some winter pieces cheaper than usual because there is not that much demand for it. How about leggings too maybe?

Thanks Kate for the great idea too about making your own skinnies. I've been thinking that I need some for when I do get some boots and I'm sure I have a jeans orphan hanging around just dying to be converted!

Can anyone tell me what the Sweet Pea tops are - we dont have them down here!

Skinny jeans tucked into boots
Dresses/ skirts with leggings or tights and boots i found the leggings to be warmer than tights so they got more wear

Great Idea Kate! I actually have a pair of "house jeans" that I might turn into skinnies and see how I like them/make sure it turns out - I have seen mostly skinnies with large %'s of elastane and find them a bit too clingy to my thighs, so this could be the perfect way around that!

Interesting about your unusual weather Joy - our summer has been very odd this year compared to previously, so perhaps our winter will be odd and I might actually need proper winter clothes...

Denim shirt isn't a bad idea though - might add that to my list to look for.

Theresa, I know you sew, so to save money you can make your own skinny jeans! I used some jeans I already had that were in good shape but not a good cut on me, or you can easily thrift some that fit at the hips. Put them on inside out, pin (or mark) up the inside seam so that they are as tight as you want them to be, and be sure to leave enough of an opening at the bottom so that you can get them off and on. Then sew along that inside seam where you pinned and ta-da! Skinny jeans! There are a ton of tutorials online so you can get more detailed directions and some pictures. Anyway, I highly recommend it because you can get just the fit you want and it's rather cheap and easy!

I also foundthat Angie was right on the money. It was an unusually cold, wet winter, so boots, long scarves and puffer coats got a workout. I didn't wear my vest much. It was just too cold. A sweater dress is so cozy on a cold day with boots and tights.
For alternatives for tops, how about the denim shirt? Also I've liked wearing the long sleeved Sweet Pea tops over a tank or a long sleeved tee when it's colder. This winter I wore my denim and leather jackets a lot under a coat and kept them on all day for warmth.

ooooh another Queenslander! We really don't get enough winter here sometimes do we puffenstuff?!?

That's really good to know that most of the list was spot on for you guys. Thanks for telling me what you found out.

I've been through it and the MOTG formula's and I think my winter list is looking like this:

-Flat Tall Boots (I have 2 pairs of heeled boots and heeled booties but zero flat boots...)
-New Ballet Flats - lived in my 1 pair last year so need to replace them
-Skinny Jeans (have straight legs x 2 pairs)
-Pleather Moto Jacket (doubt I can afford leather LOL and this would be all the outerwear I'd need)
-Cascading Cardi (only really want 1 cardi as I have a few others even if they aren't cascading)
-Winter Dress - will definitely keep an eye out for a sweater-style dress or other wintery dress
-More leggings/tights/opaques/textured hose.

So that seems like a good starting place for me - on Angie's Must Have's list and also usable in the formulas - and definitely suiting me and my climate.

Theresa thanks for posting this question I was just thinking the same thing as a fellow Queenslander! I am hoping to get some boot wear in for the coming months because I love the look so much just dont know if it's still too hot sometimes to wear them.

Any suggestions for alternatives for tops? Dont really like the plaid trend thing, not too keen on some of the tunics that were around last winter either but maybe I just need to find the right silhouette?

Waistcoats, dresses and textured hose didn't play a big part for me, but the rest of that list was pretty spot on for me. I agree with tunics, too- both knit and woven.

it seems funny to think of you all gearing up for winter when we are itching to pull out our spring stuff.

here's my rundown of the list

boots- I have 4 pair that I have worn soooo much! definite must have

skinnies and straight legs- I have black skinnies and 2 dark denim straights that I have lived in!

check/plaid top- the few I tried got thumbs down here so I gave up trying.

pleather jacket-- another must have!

bf blazer- never found one that worked, but those who have them seem to wear them great!

cascading cardigans- didn't work on my body

vest- never got one, I have a summer one that will come out to play soon

coats- depends on your weather. I have found that I wear my jackets much more than my coats

dresses- sure wish I could have found a sweater dress to work, but I enjoyed layering up my other dresses with tights, boots, cardigans or jacket.

legging- more transitional for me... not for winter

textured hose-- I wish I had more of these

scarves- oh yeah baby! loved my scarves to death. I just recently have refined the best way to wear them on my body....

and I'l add- tunics--- I have had a winter long love affair with tunic sweaters they are so kind to my shape and fab with skinnies and boots!

so in all, I'd say Angies list was spot on. Just don't settle for something that doesn't translate to your body or lifestyle.

Hi Angie,

Seeing as we are just gearing up for Winter and you guys are just about done, I was wondering how the trends in your "Must-Haves" for A/W 09/10 translated to what was actually worn?

I was reading this post in particular:
http://youlookfab.com/2009/09/.....nter-2009/

Were all these things as big as predicted?

Thanks so much!
Theresa
(who is distracting herself from her cold by fantasising about her winter wardrobe LOL)
