Looking forward to hearing how the day-time LBD dress search goes - I could use something like this myself.

In the meantime, that Eliza J dress might be worth a try anyway...you just never know, but I do understand what you mean about fit issues.

I kind of like the green one myself

VC, I saw that dress in the green (which I love) and I think it's very cool. I don't know if it would work on me -- straight cuts like that tend to be very difficult because if they're big enough in the hip, they're usually too big in the chest, and then they tend to make me look as though my whole body is as wide as my hips, which is not a good thing. In general, cuts that at least indicate a waist and hint at my curves are easier for me to wear.

But I am determined to at least try on things outside my comfort zone.

I don't know about length, but I happened to notice that the Eliza J dress mentioned in Angie's recent Nordstrom round-up on sleeved dresses also comes in black (mint green featured on her post):

Here's the post (the dress I'm thinking of is #2 in the post):

http://youlookfab.com/2013/02/.....d-dresses/

Here's the Angie-recommended dress in black...

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/el.....sbAnjFrMVA

Note the interesting zipper detail on the back of the dress.

Have a fab weekend!

I agree with Angie. Right this week, as of Monday 5.30pm EST when I was there, Bloomingdales (59th & Lexington) is teeming with sleeved dresses- in 3/4th, half, full and short. The dresses that were of knee length that I saw were in darker shades and the shorter ones got more body con and lighter or metallic. This is possibly the best week to get them!

Good frock idea! No need to make it black either.

Your biggest challenge will be length - (*don't even get me started on how short hemlines are AGAIN*). Sleeved frocks are in stores now. Leave it to later and it's sleeveless everywhere.

Frock destinations for my clients and me are always: Macys, Bloomies, Neiman Marcus and Nordies. You get all the brands in one place so it's a fab place to start. Little boutiques are such a hit and miss. I also love Reiss - but Bloomies stocks Reiss so you are set.

HEAD FOR THE FROCKS WITH LENGTH!!!

(And thanks for having tea and cake for me).

Wrap up!! 13 inches of snow expected in NYC soon.

Angie, I wish you were able to join the NYC YLF gang this weekend! We will miss you, but we will be sure to enjoy some tea and cake for you. :-)

As I stated in my dress purge thread earlier, I am in the market for a new LBD. My old one was from Anthro about 5 years ago, and I've gotten lots of wear out of it, but it's time to let go. I'm looking for a sleeved, casual/day dress in an easy fabrication that will span fall-winter-spring at least (I have the sleeveless summer LBD covered), knee-length, and perhaps in a cut that is a little new to me -- something that really suits my more recent style persona.

You know, it doesn't even need to be black. Maybe grey? Navy or ink blue?

Do you have any suggestions of designers I should check out or even any specific dresses you may have run across in your travels that might be a good fit for me? I'm sure we'll hit a lot of the usual retail meccas (hello, Bloomies!).
